After opening the 2016 Olympics with three strong wins, the Lithuanian team has been anything but. They were demolished by Spain on Saturday, and then the Croatian National Team overcame a 10-point deficit to top Lithuania, 90-81.
Much of the difference came from bench production, with Croatia’s bench outscoring their opponents 23-10. Those bench players on the Lithuanian side included Domantas Sabonis, who mustered 10 minutes of inefficient play. He finished the game with two points off of 1-of-5 shooting and three fouls.
Things still ended up working out nicely, if you are thinking gold medal opportunity, for the Lithuanian team. Spain also won on Monday, which meant that Lithuania finished third in the group, and on the opposite end of the bracket from the U.S.A.
Lithuania’s next game will be early Wednesday morning against Australia, so that might be worth tuning into, due to the Saint Mary’s connection and all.
