Spain has a bit of life back into their Olympic bloodstream after they dismantled an absolutely listless Lithuanian team, 109-59, on Saturday. Pau Gasol led all scorers with 23 points and six different Spanish players scored in double-digits.
The game meant more for the Spanish team than the Lithuanian team, at any rate. Lithuania already guaranteed an appearance in the quarter-finals after their win over Argentina earlier in the week.
For Gonzaga fans, Domantas Sabonis’ performance was one to forget, although the same could be said for every single one of his teammates. Sabonis finished with five points, five rebounds, two assists and two turnovers. Sabonis did demonstrate a bit of range, going 1-for-2 from beyond the arc.
Lithuania has one more game against Croatia in the group stage, and it does hold some importance. If Lithuania wins against Croatia, they will take the top spot in the group and therefore avoid the U.S.’s side of the bracket on their way to the gold medal game.
