The 2016-17 conference slate for Gonzaga will get underway on Thursday, December 29, after the WCC revealed the conference schedule for all teams on Wednesday.

Right off the bat, it looks like the Zags will start off with a pretty decent go. The Zags open at home against Pepperdine, and then head to Pacific and San Francisco. The latter is quite nice to play against San Francisco, a location that Gonzaga has lost more games than they should, while the students are on Winter Break.

Things are looking good....but wait. The WCC really screwed the stupid pooch once again with the Saint Mary’s game. Gonzaga will take on Saint Mary’s at home on Saturday, January 14. UNFORTUNATELY, as it stands right now, dorms for students don’t open until Sunday, January 15. So, although there will be a good clutch of students attending for that game, it will still be a different environment.

Senior night will once again be against BYU at home, which is a good test and a fitting game for the Zags and the Cougars considering the solid contests the two schools have traded for the past few years.

There are some big changes this year in the WCC, specifically that the conference will take place over nine weeks instead of ten, and that means there are no bye weeks anymore. The WCC was very transparent about the scheduling changes, and you can read more about them here.
