While we have no news to speak of related to Gonzaga, we can talk about the exploits of our Zags on the big stage in Rio. Specifically, Domantas Sabonis and his crew of Lithuanian’s making a push to be the team that most likely gets slaughtered by the U.S.A.

Things got a bit more dicey against Nigeria. Lithuania went into halftime trailing by five points, but a big third period from Jonas Maciulis helped propel his team to victory. As for Sabonis, the big man scored eight points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had three steals.

He also is showing his ability to take much deeper shots, something he will have to do in the NBA to remain offensively relevant. Sabonis attempted (and missed) one three pointer, but he did drain a jumper from behind the free throw line in the second quarter.

Perhaps the best sign for Sabonis is he logged 25 minutes and only registered one foul. This is especially good considering Nigeria has the likes of Ike Diogu on their team.

Lithuania now sits upon Group B tied with Argentina for the lead at four points. The two teams face off on Thursday afternoon.
