The Gonzaga Bulldogs added another quality opponent to the non-conference schedule after it was reported that the Zags would face off against San Diego State for a home and home series beginning in Spokane.

This is a good get for the Zags’ non-conference scheduling. San Diego State wasn’t the team last season they were in previous years, but they still finished the year with a 28-10 record and a Ken Pomeroy ranking of No. 49. Prior to last season, the Aztecs had made the NCAA Tournament six-straight years.
The Zags are doing a good job of stacking some solid home matches to complement playing Arizona in Los Angeles and heading to the tournament in Orlando. Alongside San Diego State, Gonzaga will also face the Cal Golden Bears and the Washington Huskies in Spokane next season.
It is also an extra boost to get a game against a very different style of play. San Diego State has not been known for its offense over the past decade, but Steve Fisher’s team defense is one of the, if not the, best defense in college hoops. They will be a good test for the Gonzaga offense, and it is hardly a gimme game.
Also, it would be nice to see this game get up and going routinely. Gonzaga doesn’t need to travel everywhere and play anyone anymore, but it is nice to get some quality opponents. Geographically speaking, there just aren’t as many consistently good teams on the west coast. San Diego State is one of them, so good part scheduling them on both teams’ parts.
