Gonzaga golfer Sean Walsh competes in NCAA Regional Championship this week

He is just the second golfer in team history to get this prestigious call.

Gonzaga senior Sean Walsh will be the second-Gonzaga golfer ever to compete in the NCAA Regional Championship, on May 16-18, in Marana, Arizona.

Walsh will follow in James Fahy’s footsteps last year, and has had a year for the record books. He is the first Gonzaga golfer in program history to be named WCC Player of the Year. He also carries the lowest average in program history right now at 73.17.

He will join four other golfers, Brandon Bauman from UC-Santa Barbara, Alex Chiarella from San Diego, Daniel Chian from Long Beach State and Aaron Beverely from Cal-State Sacramento for a chance to advance to the finals at the Eugene Country Club in late May.

The goflers will be playing the North Course at the Gallery Golf Club, a par-72 at 7,258 yards. Golfweek named it one of the top 100 modern golf courses in the country.

Walsh has one goal for this week: to not finish in last. Otherwise, he will advance to the finals at Eugene. The event won’t be televised, but you can follow along live at golfstatresults.com.
