2016 NCAA Tournament: A look back at Gonzaga's March Madness history

Some of these years were really fun...others, not so much.

Sorry if this brings back painful memories...but hey, look how many times we've made the tournament!

Looking back through all of these game recaps, I'm reminded how many times the Zags ran into a great team that was loaded with NBA talent.

  • 2015 featured a loss against a Duke squad that went on to win the National Championship, and had three players drafted in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft.
  • In 2013 (Wichita St) and 2012 (Ohio State), Gonzaga fell early to teams that made it to the Final Four. The Zags also lost to another Final Four team in the 2001 MSU Spartans.
  • In 2009, UNC beat Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 en route to the National Championship with six future NBA players on their roster: Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbrough, Tyler Zeller, Danny Green, Ed Davis, Wayne Ellington.
  • Steph Curry beat the Zags in 2008.
  • In 2006, the Bulldogs lost to a UCLA team that went on to the Championship game, and had future NBA players Jordan Farmar, Darren Collison, Arron Afflalo, Ryan Hollins, Cedric Bozeman, and Luc Mbah a Moute.
  • The 1999 UConn Huskies went on to win a national championship with 3 future NBA'ers in Richard Hamilton, Khalid El-Amin, and Jake Voskuhl. The latter two guys were drafted by the Chicago Bulls, and as a Bulls fan, I have to say it's very generous to classify them as NBA players.
