The now weekly churning of the top team in basketball is complete, and after securing their 12th-straight Big 12 title, the Kansas Jayhawks are the new No. 1 team in the nation.
Gonzaga, of course, is nowhere to be found.
Saint Mary's, unfortunately, is somewhere to be found. The Gaels also highlight the discrepancy that exists between the AP voters and the coaches. Despite their gaudy record, in the AP poll, the Gaels received a grand total of three votes. In the coaches poll, Saint Mary's was rewarded for their play with a No. 24 ranking.
Now, I'm not one to quibble over where Saint Mary's stands in the grand scheme of things. But it is interesting to note. The general line of thinking is that if a team keeps winning they keep on moving up. This year, it seems like the coaches have been more in line with that process of thought than the AP voters.
