Pesky seemed like the proper descriptor for Pepperdine tonight. The Waves played extremely tough in the first half and exchanged blows with the Zags to the point where it seemed like they were able to pull off the upset. Then, as we have seen so man times this season, the 2nd half happened. Mark Few's club once again played two completely different halves of basketball and it paid off as they took down the Waves down to advance to the WCC Finals.
Without getting into all the details, this post will serve to be a small ode to Byron Wesley. The USC transfer played not only his best game of the year but one of the most complete games I have seen from a player in a Gonzaga uniform. Gonzaga has had its fair share of incredible offensive threats but Wesley's performance was perfect on both ends. He was 10-13 from the floor with 25 points and also dished out three assists. On the other end, he was outstanding and made several plays to blow the game open and finished with 4 steals. For a guy that has been so quiet all year, it was great to see him shine on a huge stage.
Oh, and huge kudos to Kyle Wiltjer. The beat up forward was a man tonight on his way to 17 points on 7-12 from the floor. The transfer game really paid off for Mark Few tonight.
I'll have more tomorrow but, for now, let's rejoice about Byron.
