Top 25 Rankings: Gonzaga opens as both a top 10 team and a not top 10 team

The preseason polls are out and Gonzaga is right in the thick of it.

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

The preseason top 25 polls are out and the Gonzaga Bulldogs came in at No. 9 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the Coaches Poll.

The polls are split on who is at the top, with North Carolina and Kentucky each claiming a top ranking. Maryland, Duke and Kansas round out the top-five.

It is the highest preseason ranking in the AP Poll for the Zags since the 2005-06 team that opened the season ranked No. 8. There is a lot of preseason hype for Gonzaga, much of it centered around the excitement of one of the best frountcourts in the nation, led by All-American chasing Kyle Wiltjer.

As for now -- Gonzaga can't call itself best in the west, at least as far as the polls go. Arizona landed one spot ahead of us in the Coaches Poll.
