In a decision that is hardly surprising, 2015 PG Kendall Small has chosen Oregon over Gonzaga and San Diego State. A player that once was considered a major Gonzaga lean due to growing up a Bulldogs fan, Small will stay on the west coast as he takes his talents to Eugene.
Small was on Gonzaga's radar for about two years now but in the last several months, other programs had seemingly prioritized Small higher than the Zags. With Josh Perkins signed up in 2014 and Jesse Wade coming in 2017, there was an opportunity for a point guard to be a part of the 2015 class but that will not be Small.
As most prep point guards tend to be, Small is outstanding off the bounce and getting into the lane. That said, he's struggled with the consistency of his jump shot but that has improved mightily in the past 12 months. As a consensus top-100 prospect, Small should be able to come in right away and contribute at the collegiate level.
The interesting fallout from this decision is how it will impact that of Stephen Thompson Jr. and Jeremy Hemsley. Kendall Small is very close with those two as they all play on the same AAU club. There have been reports that the trio could wind up at the same college but, as we often see with package deals, the likelihood of that coming to fruition is low.
That said, congrats to Kendall on his choice!
