2015 Gonzaga Basketball Recruiting: Kendall Small To Announce Decision Tomorrow

The top-100 point guard prospect will choose between SDSU, Oregon, Gonzaga, and Portland...

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

A few days ago, we took a high level look at the 2015 recruiting cycle and what we expected for Gonzaga.  One of the things we addressed in that post was the needs for the program moving forward.  Point guard jumped out as one of those areas and this evening, one of Gonzaga's point guard announced that he would be choosing his college destination on Tuesday.  Kendall Small, a top 100 consensus recruit in 2015, will decide between a very solid top four.

Small's recruitment was particularly interesting to us because of this little fact that was revealed early on in his recruitment:

At that point, Small was widely regarded as a fringe high-major prospect but was likely to wind up at a mid-major university.  That was two years ago.  Now, he is destined to end up at a top-tier basketball program, assuming he chooses Oregon, San Diego State, or Gonzaga.  A few days ago, Edward Lewis of Rivals reported that four schools were after Small the hardest:

-Four-star PG Kendall Small said four schools are really coming after him the hardest right now: Creighton, San Diego State, Portland and Oregon.

Gonzaga's pursuit of Small became a little less vital to the program when Jesse Wade committed to Gonzaga in October of last year but we still expect a point guard to be a part of the 2015 class as Wade will not be on campus until 2017 due to his LDS mission.  Small may be that point guard but given the above quote, it seems like Oregon or San Diego State are the favorites to land his verbal.

Another interesting note is that Small is very close friends and AAU teammates with Stephen Thompson Jr. and Jeremy Hemsley, both of which are also high level 2015 prospects.  The trio has discussed attending college together and all have listed both San Diego State and Gonzaga in their top schools.  If the Aztecs or Zags can land Small, it could be big in grabbing at least one of the other two.

The exact time of Small's decision have not been revealed but it sounds like it will come at some point in the afternoon.  We'll keep you posted of all developments here.
