Two Zags make All-WCC First team, Tyler Haws wins Player of the Year

Sam Dower and Kevin Pangos honored on the All-WCC team.

Sam Dower and Kevin Pangos were announced to the 2013-14 All-WCC Men's Basketball Team on Monday.

BYU guard Tyler Haws took home the Player of the Year award in one of the smallest surprises of the season. Haws is the leading scorer in the conference and currently ranked sixth in the nation at 23.4 points per game. He is the first Cougar to win the award since BYU transferred into the conference three years ago.

Senior Pepperdine forward Brendan Lane won the Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Pepperdine player since Cedric Suitt won the award in 2001-02. Freshman forward Jared Brownridge from Santa Clara won the Newcomer of the Year award.

San Francisco coach Rex Walters was named the Coach of the Year. San Francisco has done well this year, having its best season since 1981-82, but the choice is still a bit interesting considering the controversy that has swirled around the program this year.

Of the 10 members voted to the All-WCC first team, eight appeared on the preseason squad. LMU's Anthony Ireland and Pangos each made their third consecutive appearance on the award.
