The committee has spoken and awarded the Gonzaga Bulldogs the No. 8 seed in the west region of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Gonzaga will be sent out to San Diego to take on the No. 9 Oklahoma St. Cowboys in the first round and would face the No. 1 Arizona Wildcats if the Bulldogs make it that far.
The west region is rather loaded. The Bulldogs have Oklahoma State, Arizona, Wisconsin, San Diego State Creighton and Oregon. Also, rather funnily, the BYU Cougars also landed in the west region as well.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs were seeded No. 8 once before, back in 2010 when they lost to the No. 1 Syracuse Orange, 87-65, in the round of 32.
Kneejerk reaction, this is pretty much the worst possible spot the Zags could land. Not only is the No. 8 seed a tough draw in the third round, but Oklahoma State is a very dangerous team that fell on some hard times during the season. The Cowboys have the ability to play like a top-5 team, but they also falter somewhat. That is going to be a hard game to predict.
More to come later, but for now, ouch.
