Silas Melson Caps Of High School Career With Explosive Performance In Northwest Shootout

It has been a dream year for the Gonzaga signee...

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Two titles, state player of the year, signed with Gonzaga...I would say it has been a pretty stellar high school career for Jefferson's Silas Melson.  Yesterday, Melson polished off that career in the Northwest Shootout as the best players in the state of Oregon took on the best of Washington.  The Gonzaga signee absolutely went off as he scored 40 points on 16-29 shooting from the floor to lead Oregon to a 127-114 win.

Melson did a little bit of everything in addition to his whole lot of scoring.  He made three three-pointers, dished out five assists, and had five steals.  While he has little to prove to his high school followers in the state of Oregon, it is clear that Melson plays with a chip on his shoulder and is constantly trying to prove himself.  This is a great quote from the Oregonian:

"I wanted to show that my game is more versatile, just not shooting threes," he said. "I tried getting to the cup a few times. Really I just wanted to prove that my game is just more than jump shots."

Here are a few more quotes about Melson

Washington State signee Tramaine Isabell:

"Silas is a hell of a player.  One of the best jump shots I've seen out here. He's perfected his step-back and his pull-up, so if he doesn't want to go all the way in the lane, he'll just stop and shoot over you."

Churchill HS point guard Malik Morgan

"I'm happy that he was on my team, let's put it that way.  He's a great player. I never realized how great of a player he is until tonight. He's amazing. It was a show for me on the floor."

And, finally, here is a quick highlight clip from last night's game
