Gonzaga's recruiting class has been racking up accolades since all three prospects signed late last year. For Silas Melson and Josh Perkins, which many have called Gonzaga's backcourt of the future, you can now add McDonald's All American nominees to that list.
McDonald's hosts a boys and girls game and, in total, over 1,000 players were nominated. That large list will eventually be cut down to 24 boys and 24 girls which will then compete on April 2nd in Chicago. ESPNU will host a 'selection show' on January 29th which will cut this massive list down to just 24 boys.
As this nomination clearly indicates, both Perkins and Melson are having outstanding senior seasons. Josh Perkins, who plays for the elite prep school Huntington Prep, is averaging about 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals per game as their starting point guard. Melson, who plays his high school ball in Portland, is averaging well over 25 points per game on arguably the best team in the state. The last member of Gonzaga's current 2014 class, Bryan Alberts has not played a game yet in his senior season as he battles injuries.
Congrats to both Josh and Silas on this outstanding accomplishment and we will continue to track their progress.
