2014 Gonzaga Recruiting Big Board: The Zags Have Their Point Guard

With a commitment a few days ago from Josh Perkins, Mark Few and the staff will zone in on finishing up the 2014 class strong...

It goes without saying that it was a big weekend for #ZagClass14. Mark Few and the Gonzaga staff locked in their point guard of the future as Josh Perkins popped for Gonzaga three days ago. With Perkins commitment, the 2014 class has gained ample momentum and now the staff can focus on several remaining prospects that can make this one of the top classes in the country. At this point, it definitely feels like this has the potential to be a five-man class with Melson, Perkins, a bigger guard / wing, and then a couple bigs. While the scholarship situation currently doesn't allow for that, with some of the prospects still on the board for 2014, I'm guessing the staff will figure that part out.

Here is a current look at the Gonzaga scholarship situation. If nothing changed, the Zags would add two more student athletes in the 2014 class. With that said, let's take a look at the current picture...

Oh, hey, that Josh Perkins guy committed. That's swell...

Shooting Guards

The original member of #ZagClass14, Silas Melson and Josh Perkins will join forces to form a very solid backcourt of the future. The pair will likely be joined in the class by another as the staff is targeting several wings (see below)...

Wings

Over the spring it was Josh Perkins that improved his stock in a big way and over the summer, there were few names hotter than Trey Kell. The San Diego native went from mid-major prospect to getting his door knocked down by top programs across the country with his stellar play. The Gonzaga coaching staff was able to secure a visit from Kell in a few weeks and would love to bring him into the backcourt with Josh Perkins and Silas Melson. Malik Pope is also still big on the radar as is Namon Wright. Lots of talent in this group...

Bigs

Speaking of guys that improved their stock exponentially over the past few months, let's take a look at Reid Travis. The dual sport star recently gave up football to focus in 100% on basketball which is fantastic news for Gonzaga. While he is now one of the most sought after recruits in the nation, we hear great things about the Zags chances with Reid but there is no doubt that beating out Michigan State, Stanford, and Minnesota will not be easy. Getting Josh Perkins to commit this past weekend can't hurt but it will be a long road until Reid's eventual commitment.
