2014 Gonzaga Recruiting Big Board: Perkins, Travis Top The List

With AAU hoops underway, the staff has been very busy in hopes of securing visits from top prospects across the country...

USA TODAY Sports

Point Guards

Not only is Josh Perkins the #1 prospect in this category, but he is the #1 prospect on the board overall. The Aurora, Colorado point guard has quickly become one of the top prospects in the nation and is getting national attention. Jordan McLaughlin is another intriguing point guard prospect but Josh is the main target here.

Shooting Guards

This off-guard position has been fluid over the past few weeks. The biggest news was that Grayson Allen committed to Duke right after getting an offer from Coach K. The talented off-guard from Florida was looking to visit the Zags prior to the Duke offer but that will no longer be happening, obviously. That said, a few other prospects have risen up lately, most notably Trey Kell. Kell has been hounded by San Diego State since he burst on the scene but he is going to get plenty of offers as he is one of the top pure shooters on the West Coast.

Wings

Justin Burks is the new name here. He could have an argument to be in the group above as, like Kell, he is a very talented shooter but Burks is more of a prototypical wing. At 6'6'', the Las Vegas standout is just seeing his recruitment take off and the Zags are in the mix early for him. One guy that has been on the radar for some time and continues to get strong interest from the staff is Donaven Dorsey. He plays on the very, very solid Portland ICP travel team so he will likely get a lot of coverage and new interest this summer.

Versatile Forwards

The most intriguing category because I think the Zags have a legit shot at two of these very talented prospects. Aside from Josh Perkins, no prospect has received more attention from the staff than Reid Travis. Mark Few recently made a trip to see Reid and Tommy Lloyd has been out a number of times. All that effort has netted a potential visit from Reid in June. A two-sport standout, Travis is as tough as they come in the post and is an exceptional rebounder. On the flip side, Malik Pope is your classic Zags forward. A guy that loves to play on the outside, Pope reeks of potential. He's a phenomenal athlete and Donny Daniels has stayed close to him.
