With possibly six scholarships to play with in 2014, the staff will be relied on to pull together one heck of a recruiting class. Most notably, the staff needs to find a couple solid forwards than can play right away because, as it stands, the only forward that will be around in 2014-15 is Lucas Meikle (seriously). Having said that, the staff has been extremely busy getting in the ear of numerous prospects.
While this list will be ever changing, here is how the recruiting picture looks right now for 2014...
Point Guards
With Graham Woodward dead center on the radar for 2013, you have to wonder what the staff's mindset is for a point guard in the 2014 class. If Graham signs, this position will likely move down the 'need' list but Collier and Perkins are both wildly intriguing prospects that the staff has recently started talking to.
Prospect | Location | Ranking | Considering | Notes | Commit Odds | Recent Trend |
Dominique Collier | Denver, CO HS: Denver East AAU: KC Pump N' Run |
Rivals: 4 Star Scout: 4 Star ESPN: 4 Star |
Colorado, Kansas State, Stanford, Iowa | The staff went out to see Collier this fall but interest is still pretty new at this point. | 25%. Collier is a great option at point, just depends if the staff views it as a need in '14. |
|
Josh Perkins | Denver, CO HS: Regis Jesuit AAU: Colorado Miners |
Rivals: 4 Star Scout: 4 Star ESPN: 4 Star |
Colorado, Arizona, ASU, SDSU, Stanford, USC, Wake Forest | Like Collier, this interest is pretty new so we will see if anything materializes. | 25%. See above. |

Combo Guard
If you asked Max and I who we thought the #1 priority for this class was right now, it would be Alberts. As a versatile and skilled guard with great size, Alberts is the type of player Mark Few has had great success with. While Gonzaga's back court has plenty of skill at this time, Alberts seems like a prime candidate to grab the torch from guys like Pangos, Bell, and Dranginis.
Prospect | Location | Links | Considering | Notes | Commit Odds | Recent Trend |
Bryan Alberts | Sun Valley, CA HS: Village Christian |
Rivals: Unrated Scout: 3 Star ESPN: 3 Star |
Wisconsin, Oregon State, UW, WSU, Georgetown, Northwestern, etc. | At this time, Alberts seems to be the 'it' guy in 2014. He is on campus as we speak! | 90%. The staff has made him a priority and, should the pursuit continue, very confident Alberts will be a Zag. |

Wings
Over the past few weeks, it has become very clear that securing an athletic wing is a big priority in 2013. With Guy Landry Edi leaving after this year and then only two years with Gerard Coleman after that, the staff needs to lock down this position. Dorsey is a great local talent from Olympia but Bailey and Wright are both extremely talented.
Prospect | Location | Links | Considering | Notes | Commit Odds | Recent Trend |
Donaven Dorsey | Lacey, WA HS: Timberline AAU: Team Mocha |
Rivals: 3 Star Scout: Unrated ESPN: Unrated |
UW, WSU, Cal, Oregon State | Zags have come onto Dorsey strong lately. Few and Giacoletti just were in Olympia to see him this week! | 65%. At this point, Dorsey seems like a big priority and would fill a big need as an athletic wing. |
|
Isaiah Bailey | Compton, CA HS: Compton AAU: Compton Magic |
Rivals: 4 Star Scout: 4 Star ESPN: 4 Star |
Arizona, ASU, SDSU, UCLA, UNLV, USC | Bailey was recently offered by the Zags and the staff went down and met with him in the fall. | 25%. New interest that we don't know much about. Bailey is likely prime to blow up this season in CA. |
|
Namon Wright | Los Angeles, CA HS: Pacific Hills AAU: Dream Vision |
Rivals: 4 Star Scout: 4 Star ESPN: 4 Star |
Arizona, UCLA, UNLV, USC | Wright recently put the Zags in his top five but it seems like Alberts is the main priority here. | 25%. Still in wait and see mode with Wright. |

Versatile 4/3 Forwards
Lots of skill at this position to choose from and, as you would guess, lots of competition. Gonzaga desperately needs to find some athleticism in the 2014 class to take over for guys like Sam Dower and Kelly Olynyk who will be departing. Malik Pope might be a bit of a pipe dream at this pint but Cheatham and Travis are both exciting prospects that the staff has made a push for as of late.
Prospect | Location | Links | Considering | Notes | Commit Odds | Recent Trend |
Reid Travis | Minneapolis, MN HS: De La Salle AAU: Minne Pump N' Run |
Rivals: 4 Star Scout: 4 Star ESPN: 4 Star |
Minnesota, Iowa St., WSU, Colorado, BC, Northwestern, etc. | Gonzaga has been out to Minneapolis to see Reid this fall. He is also a promising QB on the gridiron. | 30%. Another high profile PF with tons of interest. Gonna be tough to get him out of the Midwest. |
|
Zylan Cheatham | Phoenix, AZ HS: South Mountain |
Rivals: Unrated Scout: 3 Star ESPN: 3 Star |
ASU, Cal, New Mexico, Oregon State | Gonzaga watched him this summer and recently offered. | 30%. I think the staff will make a run at one of the higher profile options but Cheatham is very skilled as well. |
|
Malik Pope | Sacramento, CA HS: Luther Burbank AAU: Team Superstar |
Rivals: 5 Star Scout: 5 Star ESPN: 4 Star |
UCLA, UNLV, USC, UW, Baylor, Arizona, Colorado..pretty much anywhere. | Zags were in on Pope early but he has since risen to a 5-star and is likely BCS bound. | 10%. Don't see this one happening. |
|
Athletic Bigs
Aka "Goodluck's Category". As most of you know, the Zags were a key player for Goodluck's signature when he was a member of the 2013 class. Since he reclassified, there will be a great deal of competition as he will be ranked as one of the top big men in the country. It will be interesting to see if the staff elects to continue to go after Goodluck or takes a gander at more than one of the veratile 4/3 type players.
Prospect | Location | Links | Considering | Notes | Commit Odds | Recent Trend |
Goodluck Okonoboh | Boston, MA HS: Wilbraham & Monson AAU: Mass Rivals |
Rivals: 4 Star Scout: Unrated ESPN: 4 Star |
Syracuse, Uconn, Minnesota, Mizzou, Pitt, Providence, Seton Hall | Okonoboh was courted heavily over the summer by the Zags. As an East Coast guy, would be tough to get him on board. | 20%. Really hard one to call but considering the amount of other interest for Okonoboh, I'm not holding my breath. |
|
Since we are still trying to figure out the 2013 class, please be aware that this list is going to be extremely fluid over the next year. At this point, these are the guys that have been receiving heavy interest from HCMF (my cool way of saying Mark Few) and company. Certain guys, like Bryan Alberts, we expect to be there until the end and some are longshots but...until they sign on the dotted line, we'll continue to bring you updates.
Scholarship Situation (Click Here For The Chart): Assuming Gonzaga does not sign any more prospects in the 2013 class does not have any defections or transfers in, the staff will have 6 scholarships to play with. Players on scholarship for the 2014-15 class will be Guards: Gary Bell, Kevin Pangos, Gerard Coleman (all seniors), Kyle Dranginis (JR), Forward: Lucas Meikle (2nd Year), and Centers: Przemek Karnowski (JR), & Ryan Edwards (2nd Year). Make no mistake, 2014 needs to be a phenomenal class.
