In case you didn't realize this, Jerry Krause has a thing for explorers. While the idea of someone named Simon Fraser coming to play Gonzaga seems normal enough, we must think of this in the context of the larger picture. If you are a British Columbia history-buff like myself, you know that Simon Fraser is the Lewis & Clark of the area. And, if you have paid attention to Gonzaga basketball over the past few years, you will know that Gonzaga has squared off against the university named after the famous duo Lewis & Clark. I have a hard time believing this is a coincidence. If there is a school named after Ponce de Leon, you can go ahead and pencil them in as Gonzaga's exhibition opponent next year.
Here are a couple of other fun facts about Simon Fraser and his university that I ripped directly from Wikipedia:
- The University has been prominently featured on shows such as X-Files, Stargate SG-1, and Battlestar Galactica.
- This is their mascot, McFogg the Dog, and I would say he beats Spike mainly because his name is McFogg
- Simon Fraser is also the name of a currently unemployed football player who went to college at Ohio State
That's about all I got for Simon Fraser today. Feel free to utilize this thread as a game thread or discussion and a meltdown in case Gonzaga is taken down by the Fighting McFogg's.
