2013 Gonzaga Recruiting: Chris Griffin, Graham Woodward Still On The Radar

While things look a lot different than they did a few months ago, the Gonzaga staff is still out on the road recruiting for the class of 2013. We have seen multiple high-major prospects come and go but, at this point, there appears to be two prospects that are still in play for this program. Obviously there may be more but, at this point, Chris Griffin and Graham Woodward appear to be two of the lone remaining players on the Zags' radar.

Chris Griffin is a junior college prospect from Wabash Valley CC. The former Murray State Racer will be Gonzaga's first official visit of the 2013 cycle when he arrives on campus this weekend. Griffin's name was first brought up a little over a month ago and it seems like momentum continues to build between the two parties. Griffin is an athletic wing prospect that can score in a variety of ways. With most juco prospects, Griffin simply needed some more time to mature as a player before playing meaningful D1 minutes. He has a great frame for a wing and as most of us know, the SF position is a spot that this program has had a hard time filling over the past few seasons. While Griffin would just be a two year player when he arrived after this season, he would provide nice depth and good experience once Guy Landry Edi departs.

Graham Woodward is a prospect that really popped up out of nowhere after the Las Vegas Live period. We were expecting the staff to wait on a point guard prospect until the '14 or '15 class but it does seem like they view Woodward is a guy that they can groom under Kevin Pangos. Per Ryan James, a writer for Minnesota's Rivals page, the staff was in Minneapolis to watch Graham yesterday:

With a pretty loaded backcourt, immediate playing time would be tough to come by but you better believe that some prospects are very intrigued by the idea of being groomed by Kevin Pangos who is expected to be one of the top PGs in the nation this season. Graham was actually visiting Washington State this past weekend. It will be interesting to see if the staff tries to take one more visit to Eastern Washington.

Gonzaga was also in California yesterday and appears to be visiting a handful of schools and prospects. We have yet to confirm if they are potential 2013 guys but it seems more likely that they are scouting 2014 and beyond prospects. Bryan Alberts and Kendall Small are guys that jump out as potential visits since they are both planning on coming to Spokane over the next few months.
