Peach Jam Headlines Busy Second Evaluation Period

Where will head coach Mark Few be this weekend? We are hoping Georgia.
Where will head coach Mark Few be this weekend? We are hoping Georgia.

The first July evaluation period lived up to the hype. The 'exploratory' period was a time when we learned so much about prospects and who the staff was watching. There were a lot of new names popping up but there was still a solid core of prospects that loomed big on the staff's radar.

The second evaluation period is usually the time when coaches begin to zero in on 'their guys'. Rather than hearing about coaches floating from court to court watching multiple guys, you can expect to see most coaches move with certain prospects. With that being said, here is a look at some of the main AAU tournaments this week and what we are expecting.

- EYBL Nike Peach Jam - August, GA - July 18-22

2013 G Jordan Mathews - AAU Team: California Supreme

2013 PF Goodluck Okonoboh - AAU Team: BABC

Commentary: While the staff was spread out across the country last period, we are expecting multiple coaches at Peach Jam. Jordan Mathews has seen his recruitment skyrocket over the past couple months and he has already been quoted as saying he'll visit Gonzaga this fall. Okonoboh is close with recent transfer Gerard Coleman and the Zags have offered him. Both would be tremendous fits in the 2013 class.

- Full Court Press Cream Of The Crop - Long Beach, CA - July 18-22

2013 G Darin Johnson - AAU Team: Play Hard Play Smart

2013 G Marcus Allen - AAU Team: Las Vegas Prospects

2013 G Malcolm Allen - AAU Team: Las Vegas Prospects

2013 G Elliott Pitts - AAU Team: Bay Area Hoosiers

Commentary: Very solid field in Long Beach this weekend that we expect a member of the staff at. For as much as Jordan Mathews has blown up, Darin Johnson may have increased his stock as much as anyone on the West Coast in the first evaluation period. We love Gonzaga's position with him but it will be intriguing to see what other programs are watching him now. The Allen twins recently claimed Gonzaga offers but we are under the impression they are not top priorities for the staff. At the guard position, it seems like Mathews and Johnson are 1A and 1B.

- NY2LA Sports Summer Jam - Mequon, WI - July 18-22

2013 G Kendal Harris - AAU Team: Urban DFW Elite

2013 F Karviar Shepherd - AAU Team: Urban DFW Elite

2013 G D.J. Fenner - AAU Team: DC Assault

2013 G Josh Brown - AAU Team: Team Izod

2014 F Malik Pope - AAU Team: Team Superstar

Commentary: I'm still working on fully confirming if Malik Pope will still be at this event. His AAU team's website says this is where Team Superstar Elite is but I've heard different things. If they are here, I would expect a member of the staff to be at this event at some point. Other than Pope, I'm not sure where the rest of these four stand as prospects. It seems like Harris and Shepherd might be looking elsewhere. DJ Fenner might not be a high-major prospect and Josh Brown, as we have said still seems to be a heavy Temple lean. It will be interesting to hear reports from this one as we could be wrong about who has the staff's eye.
