Baseball, WBB Notes

Great win for the Zags tonight! As a side note, thought I'd throw some non-MBB stuff up. Baseball and Women's Basketball below the jump.

Baseball: After opening the season 0-3 (two losses to Oregon State, one to Fresno State), the Zags are playing a three-game series at Texas A&M this weekend. They took yesterday's game into extras against the Aggies but lost 1-0 in the 11th inning. Starting pitcher Ryan Carpenter had an amazing outing, keeping A&M scoreless, and surrendering just one hit in the process, through 7 1/3 innings. Andy Hunter went the rest of the way, giving up five hits and the winning run.

Carpenter had an amazing summer playing in the historic Cape Cod League (the country's most talented summerball league) for the Orleans Firebirds: he went 3-0 and put up a 2.56 ERA with 47 Ks and threw the second most innings on the team. Can't wait to see what he can do in a full season with his development; he was injured for a good part of last season.

The Aggies won today 4-2. Marco Gonzales took the loss, he's now 0-2. Keegan Acker and Steven Halcomb each wound up with two hits, while Maxx Garrett and Cameron Edman had RBIs.

Women's Basketball: the girls completed their WCC sweep this afternoon with an 80-58 win over USD in front of a sold-out Kennel. They end the season 26-4, 14-0 WCC, and #23 in the country as of Tuesday. Courtney Vandersloot finished with 20 points and six assists, while Katelan Redmon and Kayla Standish each contributed 16.
