GJ Vilarino to transfer

Can't say I'm overly surprised but KREM 2 news has just confirmed that GJ Vilarino will be leaving the men's basketball team.  The freshman point guard played sparingly in his first year at GU and will continue on his college career elsewhere.

GJ showed flashes of outstanding athletic ability during his brief Gonzaga career but never found consistent minutes under Mark Few.  With the additions of Marquise Carter and Keegan Hyland, the backcourt was getting more competitive so this doesn't come as a huge surprise.  We sincerely wish GJ the best of luck.  I know many readers thought he showed great potential and will think it is a shame he won't see it through in Spokane.

This news comes on the heels of Grant Gibbs transferring so you have to think Mark Few and the staff knew something was going on with these two which is why they were so agressive in recruiting Hyland and Carter.  We will bring you more as new information surfaces.  For now it looks like Demetri Goodson and Marquise Carter will battle for the point guard minutes and then you have Steven Gray, Manny Arop, Keegan Hyland, and Bol Kong vying for the remainder of the back court minutes.
