We've made it pretty clear on the site that we feel the 2011 class could be a watershed recruiting pull for Gonzaga. The class will officially usher out the Matt Bouldin, Steven Gray, and even some of Jeremy Pargo backcourt and hopefully bring in some guys that can be there in the future along with whoever steps up from our current crop. For that reason, if you had asked me a month ago if Gonzaga would sign anyone in the 2010 class, I probably would have gone with no. Now that I have been proven wrong with the addition of Marquise Carter, I have to wonder if Mark Few is done bringing players in for 2010.
We've heard the rumors that the staff is looking for multiple players but, in my mind, we've already got a two person class. Marquise Carter will come in and bolster the backcourt and then you've got Sam Dower coming off a redshirt season to come in and contribute in the post. That looks like a very solid class to me. When you get involved in recruiting junior college players this late in the game, things start becoming a little blurry. The addition of Marquise was tremendous I though. He's one of the top junior college players in the land and if you watch him, you can immediately see that he has big-time division one ability.
We don't know what to expect from Marquise but we do know what it feels like to have junior college players come in and (to be nice) not live up to the hype. There's no point in naming names because you know the usual suspects that we often talk about and I really believe it is imperative that Gonzaga's remaining two scholarships are used wisely. With one of those spots already pledged to Kyle Dranginis in 2011, I can't imagine the Zags handing out one more in 2010 when their is a potentially very stellar class waiting in the wings next year.
What say you? Does Gonzaga need something right now that you think is worth going out and getting in 2010?
