Gonzaga coach Mark Few has been named the West Coast Conference's coach of the year, guard Matt Bouldin is the player of the year and forward Elias Harris is the newcomer of the year.

Congratulations to Mark Few, Matt Bouldin, and Elias Harris for these honors. Also, Steven Gray was named All-WCC.

I also kicked out Gonzaga, even though it beat Santa Clara and San Francisco. But I wanted to make room for Oklahoma State, and somebody had to go. I thought about kicking out BYU, but I opted for the Zags. I would have kicked the Zags out of last week's ballot because of that loss to Loyola Marymount, but I only needed to make room for one team last week, and kicking out Wake Forest accomplished that. But now I need the room, so bye bye Zags. But again, don't be surprised if they return to the ballot next week should others stumble.

"It does feel a little different than the others," said Bouldin, who tweaked his ankle with 5:25 remaining but didn’t miss any time after having his ankle re-taped during a timeout. "We didn’t know what the expectations were coming in (to the season). A lot of teams thought they had us, but we came out and got it done."

-- Spokesman Review Being that it is senior night, how much do you play Matt against Cal State-Bakersfield? I would go no more than 10 minutes.

"We started looking at the score and getting a little relaxed," junior guard Steven Gray said. "It took them making a little run to wake us up again. We’re not going to be able to turn it on like that. That’s what hurt us in that stretch (in January) when we weren’t playing so well. If a game starts like that we have to continue to play well and not let it slip."

I love seeing Steven Gray focus on this after the game. This mindset is what has been missing from Gonzaga in previous years, and playing a full 40 minutes will be the key to a deep tournament run.

Four-star prospect Terrence Ross presently still has his school list of Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Maryland, but he is contemplating opening up his list to more schools. Ross listed Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Gonzaga and Oklahoma as schools who have called in hopes of recruiting him. Assistant coaches from his top four schools have recently watched Ross, but they and any other coaches who might start recruiting Ross will have to be patient. He plans to take a series of visits after the season and is in no hurry to make a decision.

This could be a potentially exciting development on the recruiting trail.

"To me, it’s very clear. He needs to stay in school and we talked about it (Wednesday night) and he completely agrees with me," Bauermman said. "He feels there are a lot of things he can work on before he takes the next step, so that’s what the plan is.

33 Josh Heytvelt PF 23 years old, 6' 11" 260lbs. Oyak Renault One of the bigger surprises of draft night last June, at least from our perspective, was seeing every NBA team decide to pass on Josh Heytvelt in both rounds. After all, 6-11 guys with skills don’t grow on trees, even if there were a number of red flags to be concerned about. He didn’t get much more interest in the summer apparently, as he decided to accept a lucrative contract offer in Turkey and has been posting strong numbers in that fairly weak league ever since, to the tune of 17 points and 9 rebounds in 24 minutes per game. Heytvelt is a guy that will surely get his fair share of looks in summer league and mini-camps, and it wouldn’t surprise us in the least bit to see him latch onto an NBA roster eventually.

DraftExpress takes a look at the top 50 free agents in Europe. Not only does Heytvelt make it, but Jeremy Pargo checks in at #48, while Micah Downs makes the honorable mention list. Good to see these guys doing so well, and hopefully they get an NBA opportunity next season.

Gonna miss my guy ap...good luck bro!

Final thought: Gonzaga coach Mark Few has apologized for the "dreadful" performance his team delivered on what he called my network, and though I appreciated him calling it my network, I told him no apology was necessary. I mean, this is same network that canceled Secret Talents of the Stars after one show, and there's no way Gonzaga's 76-41 loss to Duke two weeks ago was worse than Star Trek's George Takei singing On the Road Again. So, Coach Few, if you're reading, man, don't even worry about it. You're back on my network with a game at Illinois on Saturday. Long as Elias Harris doesn't try Friends in Low Places, we're cool.

-- CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish Funny stuff from the CBS college basketball analyst. Here's to hoping we give CBS a better game against Illinois.

-- LaBradford Franklin's Twitter Franklin is really the only 2010 recruit that we have knowledge of and I think that both EDZ and I would really enjoy having him on this team next year. LaBradford is a scoring point guard that's really starting to get a lot of attention. He's considering UCLA, Gonzaga, USC, and San Diego State. UCLA recently got a verbal commit from Lazeric Jones, a junior college point guard. Even though he'll only be a two-year player for Ben Howland, I'd bet that Jones signing reduces the chance UCLA offers LaBradford. Stay tuned.
