To honor 75 years of the NCAA tournament, ESPN.com posted their top 75 tournament moments. Gonzaga clocked in at #35 best NCAA tournament moment from their 1999 elite 8 run. Gonzaga Arrives Writes John Gasaway: " When No. 10 seed Gonzaga took the floor against Minnesota in the round of 64 on March 11,1999, the Bulldogs were 0-1 in the NCAA tournament in program history. In the headlines that week, they were "Tiny Gonzaga," but Matt Santangelo, Richie Frahm and Quentin Hall led the Zags to wins over Minnesota, Stanford and Florida. Dan Monson's team then played eventual national champion Connecticut into the 40th minute before falling 67-62 in the Elite Eight. Monson spoke with Notre Dame officials before taking the Minnesota job later that summer, and in Spokane the reins were handed to an unknown 36-year-old assistant named Mark Few". I'm thankful, Morrison's tears didn't make the list.
Even has a small shout-out to TSSF!
Great article from ESPN Insider by John Gasaway. Good read about the team and their chemistry+stats this year.
Elgin Cook is an efficient small forward with great defense. Additionally, son of a NBA player, so we can expect to hear that on the commentary if he does sign with GU.
Zagaholic.com is holding another contest, come on over and enter for your chance to win a Zaggie. Maybe it will help you get through these cold months.
Not much has been said since news broke SMC was under investigation for Auzzie recruiting violations. The below blurb surfaced on ESPN this morning. Looks like a decision is coming soon. I'm kinda split on this. Part of me want them to suffer, but the other side of me doesn't want a black eye on the WCC. Saint Mary's should hear soon the results of the Gaels' NCAA committee on infractions hearing, which occurred in mid-December, according to a source with knowledge of the COI. The Gaels had two consecutive Saturdays off -- Dec. 8 and 15 -- and were on the schedule for the regular COI hearing. The two-year investigation dealt with recruiting and extra benefit issues for the Australian players that have flooded the Gaels' program. NCAA spokesperson Stacey Osburn refused to add any more information, saying the NCAA won't comment on current, pending or potential cases. Osburn said the reason the NCAA commented on the Miami case, which is still pending, is because it dealt with NCAA/enforcement staff actions. The outcome of the Gaels' case will be interesting for head coach Randy Bennett, who could be a candidate for the vacant USC job. Bennett and Saint Mary's athletic director Mark Orr did not return inquiries for response throughout the summer and fall on this case.
