Thoughts on conference tournaments

My friend and were talking the other day about conference tournaments and how the penalize teams from non power conferences. Lets just put it out there. Conference tournaments are just a money grab. You take team like Gonzaga the past few years and Wichita St this year. Playing in their conference tournament can do no good for them. Even if Gonzaga wins each game by twenty, it will hurt their rpi. If Wichita St was to lose in their conference tournament it could possibly knock them out a # 1 seed. More than likely won't happen this year. After playing a prefect regular, it means nothing. There have been teams with a loosing record get hot and win the tournament and the team that won their conference is on the outside looking in. I was wondering if it could work, but what if all conference winners for the regular season are automatically in the big dance. The rest of the teams in their respective leagues fight it out for the automatic birth. The more I think about it, they would have to expand the tournament. I really wouldn't want that. I just think that these conference tournaments take away from winning the regular season. Any thoughts?
