Wacky Superstitions

Last season I followed pretty much the exact same routine. The night before the game, I would put on my senior year Kennel Club shirt. The morning of, I would have my coffee in my GU mug and wear my kennel club shirt for the rest of the day. Come game time, it was time to drink out of my Gonzaga pint glass (whether it be water, beer, or whatever). I followed this routine religiously (it got a little weird) until the Wichita State game. Everything was set. I put my kennel club shirt on the night before, had my GU mug all ready to go and then the next morning I woke up to get my coffee... but my wife was drinking out of it! I calmly had her switch mugs and told my self it didn't matter. But I knew. I knew at that moment that things might not go well. As we all know, they did not.

This year I tried the same thing to start the season off but as the season progressed the magic just wasn't there anymore. I tried wearing different Kennel Club shirts, different GU gear, etc...nothing I was doing worked. It wasn't until the Pacific game (after our two game losing streak) that I finally got over some of my voodoo anxiety and took a big risk: no GU gear at all. No mug, not shirt, no pint glass (but still beer...don't worry). And to my chagrin, it worked! Since then I've been able to convince myself (to some degree) that victories actually have way more to do with the team than any superstitious ritual that I try to maintain. I know in my brain that it's conceited for me to think this way and when I do spirit sprinkles towards the T.V. during a free throw it doesn't make any real difference, but there's some part of my body that doesn't want to jinx anything. Of course, now I'm really stuck. Could I possible keep up the streak of not wearing any GU gear through the WCC tournament? That would be crazy...right, guys?

What should I do? Regular shirt? GU shirt? Kennel Club shirt? No shirt? Argh, I just don't know!

Also, I'm really interested to see what other crazy rituals are out there. I like the beer check on game threads before the games (though I'm not sure whether that's a ritual or a tradition) and I don't love the black jerseys (though I'm very thankful they got rid of the red ones). What do YOU do to help the Zags?

Also, my wife is very sorry. I've since forgiven her.
