According to KenPom

According to the mathematical equations of Sir Kenneth Pomeroy, us Gonzaga fans have been a little bit myopic, over-dramatic, and overly critical of this years team. Here is the Pythagorean ranking dating as far as KenPom goes back. This rating describes a teams chances of winning a game against an average opponent on a neutral floor. Here is a list of our national ranking dating from 2003-Present

Rank Rating
2003- #33 .8266

2004-#9 .9244

2005-#26 .8552

2006-#34 .8220

2007-#51 .8043

2008-#27 .8610

2009-#14 .9123

2010-#46 .8209

2011-#35 .8365

2012-#20 .8715

2013-#5 .9408

2014-#21 .8808

Although we are ranked 21st this year in Pythagorean, our .8808% chance of beating an average opponent on a neutral floor is greater than in 2012 when we were ranked #20 and finished with a .8715 rating.

Taking the numbers into consideration this is our 4th best team of the last 12 years, and when you take into account some of the injuries that have hobbled our offensive efficiency ranking, this team could imaginably rival our 2009 squad. So maybe things aren't that dire, and we should give ourselves a little more of a chance come tournament time.
