Start Nunez, Dower, Coleman, Barham, and and Pangos. Get rid of convention, b/c it seems as if every time we thnk he has a rotation figured out, his old mind set of bringing in 'guys that play my style of b-ball' comes into play.
When we were up by 12 pts and Memphis was crawling back into the game. I thought, Few is going to bring Coleman back into the game for the way he can outrun Memphis in our transition offense, bring in Barham for his spot on 3 pt shooting, and bring in Nunez for the first 10-15 min of the 2nd half to limit Memphis 41 advantage on the glass against us. Coleman looked ready to contribute and he did, so why was he warming the bench when we could have used him.
This was a chance for us to make a statement to the country, the tournament selection committee. Im not blind to think we would have won the Maui invitational b/c we are NOT a better ball club this season then Syracuse. However
last night we WERE a better ball club then Memphis. We have the players to match up against them. Pangos was hurting it was obvious, Bell was timid and unsure of his shot, but Coleman, Dower and PK were set to carry us on their back. It looked as if for the first time this whole season, Few was going to listen to his critiques and those three were going to help power the Zags to a much needed "W".
I dont want to hear from Few that, 'we didnt close out the game, we were bad at the free throw line,' yes while those things were true, we had folks on our team who could counter all of that who were not given a chance in teh second and quite frankly he was out-coached AGAIN by someone 15-16 years younger than him.
Will he figure it out before the NCAA tournament begins...I dont think he will this season....and as Zags fan its frustrating as hell to watch time and time again. Its one thing if the other team is just better once we hit the floor, Memphis is NOT a better team than us.....sigh......Go Zags......sigh...
