Want fewer games against teams like Pacific and Peperdine?

This Post has been brewing in my mind from something Mark Few said when talking about scheduling the Washington Huskies. He brought up that Gonzaga used to have 14 conference games a season and now has 18.

While undoubtedly having BYU on the schedule has added 2-3 more quality games a year, adding Pacific has not. In fact, adding Pacific has taken away 2 prime chances for the Bulldogs to play quality opponents throughout the year. In addition, adding more conference games has pushed conference play further into December meaning more time between larger more physical opponents.

The Solution?

Only play some conference teams once per year. I suggest we take the bottom four finishers from the WCC and have the top two teams only play them once. This would give teams like Gonzaga, BYU and St. Mary's a large incentive to finish within the top two, while eliminating pointless games where a 6' 7'' center fouls out against Karnowski. If the WCC bottom feeders have a problem, it's an easy fix, finish in the top 6 of the conference.

Other Schedule complaints,

1) not enough hard games

2) not enough tough games late in the season

3) wasted nonconference games, St Joes, St Tomas Aquinas, Texas Souther
