Moving forward with THIS line up!

After watching the Zags put on a great shooting performance in the second half and putting away a talented BYU squad, it became pretty clear to me that all of our discussion in recent weeks is now a moot point. It is now completely clear to me that the rotation we are seeing now is the one we are going to see. Nunez, Coleman, and Edwards will see spot time when the situation warrants it but the seven man rotation we saw against BYU is what we will see most of the time for the rest of the season. So, the question now is how far can it take us?

With this reality, it becomes pretty clear to me that KD will have to become more a part of the offense. This showed in the first half. I'm giving David huge props for his contribution tonight but does anyone see a repeat performance by DS against, say a Memphis? Unlikely. Our best slashers that will actually see the court are Bell and Dranginis. Kyle need to be able to get into the teeth of the defense and score with the floater. He can also drive and kick it out to Bell and Pangos for three. David will be effective against WCC teams but against bigger, better teams Kyle will need to do more of that. Barham has to find another way to contribute besides shooting threes. He was very active on the glass last season playing in Hart' s shadow and he needs to get that back. We got hammered in the first half when our bigs got in foul trouble. Drew needs to be a better rebounder if this team is going to beat anyone that is good.

Overall, I see this line up having the ability to win the conference but I don't see us running the table. We're to dependent on shooting it well and we will have a couple more nights like Portland where we just don't. I suspect that will cost us at least one and likely two more conference games. If this team does win the conference and the #1 seed in the WCC tourney, we should win it. Winning both conference and tourney titles, I'm thinking we could get a 5 seed. That seed makes me nervous but we are pretty good in first round games so we'll likely get that one. Our lack of size will likely cost us in the next round, unless whoever we play allows us to shoot the lights out. Likely a third round loss..

Summary - Finish the season 28 - 6, conference and tourney champs, get to 3rd round of NCAA. I see this as our ceiling as we are right now. If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that the rotation would be what it's become I would've taken that result.
