A Tincture of Perspective

Okay, everyone, don't start overreacting to what was a very disappointing loss. I've had the experience of watching and cheering for a number of teams that have thrilled me and also broken my heart: Vikings, Hotspurs, Astros, Rice U. You learn to not base the success of a season on winning a championship but to enjoy the ride during the season and hope for a shot at the end. Winning and succeeding in the NCAA tournament is a difficult task. Last thing you should do is to start hating on the program and the WCC. Let's savor what was a wonderful thrilling ride until the past three days. This team should elicit nothing but pride. All the players are people that Gonzaga can profer up as role models for student athletes. From Mike being a walk on phenom, to Elias staying for 4 years, to Kelly taking a redshirt junior year, and on and on, this is a great team in every sense of the word. We didn't play dirty, or lose our cool when getting mauled. We played with class and skill. We didn't have to worry about our players on the police record. Even in the power conferences, teams don't win back to back like in football. Indiana last won a national title 15 years ago. Kentucky didn't make the tournament this year. Georgetown lost to Harvard. All you can hope for is to make the tournament and from there it becomes a crap shoot. And you have to count on some luck with refs, match ups, hot shooting, cold shooting teams. Remember, a lot more schools play basketball than football making a national title run a difficult task. And the tournament frequently doesn't reward the best team that year. Instead of all the rage, and hurt, let's revel in a fantastic year for a group of great young men who were relevant on a national level and gave us some wonderful moments all season long. Thanks Bulldogs. Cannot wait for next season. Go Zags.
