Former Zag Andy Poling's college career come to a close last night after his Seattle Pacific University Falcons lost to Regional Tournament host school Western Washington University. Andy scored ten points in the loss on just 2-9 shooting.
Andy, if I recall correctly, was a very highly rated player during his Sophomore year of high school when he verbally committed to Gonzaga, but health problems slowed him down and he showed up to Gonzaga a too weak to compete at the DI level, and transferred to Seattle Pacific where he had a nice career. This season he started 29 of 30 games, and averaged 10 points per contest. His weakness showed, however, on the boards where he grabbed under 4 per game despite being the tallest player on the Falcon squad.
While I was pulling for Andy to do well I can't say I'm unhappy since my WWU Vikings get to continue on to the DII Elite Eight. I hope he can continue to play in some way.
A recap of the game (From a WWU perspective) can be read here.
