Who would you rather face in the Round of 32: Pitt or Wichita?
From an ESPN article:
All you Gonzaga skeptics have a chance to look smart right away
Well, maybe not right away. I'm not saying I like Southern's chances against the Bulldogs. (Though, of course, anything can happen. Ask Syracuse about last year's UNC Asheville game sometime.) I am saying that, in the form of Pittsburgh, the Zags have been given the field's toughest No. 8 seed by far. Actually, by my lights, the Panthers would also rate as the toughest No. 7 seed -- or 6, or even 5. You get the idea. Jamie Dixon's team has potential that's not being captured by its seed.
Pitt outscored the Big East by the same margin as Georgetown this season: 0.12 points per possession. The Panthers are an excellent rebounding team at both ends of the floor, and Tray Woodall very quietly had an outstanding season at point guard. (Too quietly: Woodall was named third-team All-Big East, which seems a smidge low to me.) As it happens, I don't like Pitt's chances to go too far simply because it puts its opponents on the line so frequently -- a trait which, to put it mildly, could come back to haunt Dixon's team against the foul-drawing likes of Elias Harris and Kelly Olynyk. But make no mistake: Gonzaga has by far the toughest round-of-32 draw of any No. 1 seed.
I think that we can beat Pitt, but I would feel a lot better if Wichita State could get take them down for us.
