Week In Review
In all likelihood, if you had told most Gonzaga fans a week or so ago that they would have gone 2-1 in Maui, they probably would have taken it. This is of course under the assumption that the one loss came either to Baylor or Syracuse in the winners bracket. Unfortunately, while the 2-1 record happened, the order in which it came was not ideal. The Zags dropped the opening round matchup to Dayton after blowing a 16-point halftime lead but then came back strong to take down Chaminade and Arkansas in convincing fashion. Last night, they carried the momentum with them back to Spokane as they completely waxed Coppin State at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
Looking Ahead
It is a very quiet week for the Zags following the busy Thanksgiving break. They'll surely have time to rest and recharge their batteries after playing four games and won't hit the court again until Saturday the 7th when they take on New Mexico State.
New Mexico State currently sits at 7-2 after playing a pretty pedestrian slate thus far. They do have a common opponent in Colorado State, however, which New Mexico State just lost to by a score of 85-83. Gonzaga beat up on the Rams earlier this year so take what you will from that. The Aggies are likely a shoe-in NCAA Tournament team simply due to the fact that the WAC is, well, really really bad. It will be intriguing to see how the Zags' big men do as New Mexico State boasts a huge frontline featured the 7'5'' Sim Bhullar.
Future Opponents In The Rankings
As we all know, Gonzaga's schedule this year is a bit...lighter than in previous years. In fact, there is only one ranked team currently left on the Zags' schedule and they are tied with them in the Coaches Poll. The Memphis Tigers, fresh off a big win over Oklahoma State, jumped up to 15th in the Coaches Poll. Saint Mary's is the only other opponent receiving votes.
