A couple gritty wins for both of our teams last night, we're inching closer to an epic battle in The Kennel next week. The only real question before then is which USF team will GU see on Saturday: The team who got their hopes dashed last night and have now written off the season; or the team that now has a chip on their shoulder and has gained confidence after realizing they have the talent to hang with anyone at War Memorial? Unfortunately I'll be on a flight home from watching BYU take care of Santa Clara so I won't get to see it, but I have an idea the Zag's will get the same intense effort USF gave my Cougs last night.
Anyways, I'm stoked to visit Spokane next week, it's shaping up to be one of, if not THE biggest game in the WCC this season. GU has their title hopes on the line, and BYU has a chance to sneak into a tie if USF can take down SMC (I think they've got a legit shot at doing it). I have a ton of respect for what Few has done on The Palouse, I'm pretty sure no one in the WCC will ever match your consecutive title run. I give props to the team, the community and the Kennel Club for making the MAC one of the toughest venues in the NCAA to steal a win.
With that said, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. We're one of the few teams in this league that knows a little something about playing in hostile environments. We'd like to think the Marriott Center can be quite loud itself. I like our chances coming into town next week. Sacre doesn't exactly thrive in big games, Elias doesn't seem to match up well with BYU and we may have finally broken out of our 3-pt shooting slump. I expect it to be deafening for most of the game, but in the end, there's no better sound in sports then hearing a raucous arena turn to dead silence when the clock strikes 00:00.
Good luck to GU vs USF tomorrow. Take care of business so we can all turn our full focus to next Thursday. Go Cougs. (BYU by 4)
