Fairly easy questions as the New Year approaches.
Biggest Surprise:
Kelly Olynyk...the question about Olynyk's redshirt season is no longer asked. Harris has shown some improvement, but not earth-shattering. Hart continues to inspire the wannabe unappreciated crowd, but his energy and sound behind-the-scenes work has been exhibited before, even if it is unappreciated. Stockton carries a name, which makes everyone biased about his game, but even if he has made some slight improvement, he is not a surprise. Draginis had one surprising game against a non-Division 1 team, not a surprising season.
Biggest Disappointment?
Kevin Pangos...He has not been a disaster, but today's modern guard, even a playmaker is too often known from how well he can connect from behind the 3-point line. Pangos's 36.2 percentage from behind the line is less than expected. But he continues to be a steady point guard, if not an electrifying passer like Stockton. He doesn't make as many turnovers as Stockton. Minor disappointments are: Dower and Barham. One should have expected more from Dower. He is letting the other three bigs claim his playing time, because he hasn't shown his previous scoring touch and he has defensive and rebounding lapses.
Edi, Bell and Karnowski have played as expected. How did this team get to be 11-1, 12-1? Team Chemistry? Glue? Better Defense? If the bigs are playing up to their potential or better(minus Dower) where can we expect the necessary improvement to take the next step in three months?
