Gonzaga's JuCo transfer Guy Edi Landry is doing quite well in the FIBA African Championships today. He led his team, Ivory Coast (Cote d"Ivoire) in total points with 19 and also led his team with 5 rebounds. His team destroyed South Africa by the score of 105-53 in the preliminary round.

The FIBA Africa Championship runs August 17-28 in Madagascar. The tournament winner will get a direct ticket to the 2012 London Olympics, while the 2nd and 3rd place finishers will earn spots in the pre-Olympic qualifier next July.

Next up for Ivory Coast is a Group C match up with Egypt (on Friday) and Cameroon (on Sunday). Both games are scheduled to tip at 10:00am PDT.

Guy Landry is a bit of a mystery. We have seen videos on SSFs that show how athletic he is but we are not sure if he can shoot. We know he can flat out dunk, but can he hit the three? The FIBA games will give us a closer look at what Guy can bring to GU this year. I can say that Kevin Pangos told me he was very impressed with his play, especially his athleticism. When I asked Kevin recently if Guy could shoot he said, "Oh yeah."

Let's hope he does well, and good luck to him.
