What's gone wrong: Gonzaga always has the best talent in the WCC by a wide margin, but this whole does not equal the sum of the parts. Forward Elias Harris was a freshman sensation but a sophomore question mark. Guard Steven Gray is averaging a career-high 14.9 points per game but shooting a career-low 44 percent from the field. Center Robert Sacre has improved his all-around numbers but still leaves you wanting more. And point guard has been an ongoing issue.
ESPN's Pat Forde has Gonzaga as one of the busts of the year.

One problem
To MANY WHIFS in recruiting.
Grant Gibbs and GJ Villarino, Bol Kong, for whatever reason, were busts. Now they are gone and we have had this huge issue with who is running the team. The point guard position has been MIA all season. We have been limping along at PG by committee. This is not good enough. The staff realized what was going to happen, got desperate to stop the bleeding and brought in a JUCO {Carter}. Still not good enough to maintain our status level as an elite team. Not even close!~
I would like to know WHO is directly responsible for this. Was it Rice? Who decided GJ & Vilarino were the next back court for the Zags and failed? Whoever it is, is to blame for this mess we call our season and the terrible play of our beloved Zags.
We can all salve our wounds by anxiously awaiting next years crop but we are not garanteed that they will work out either. Is Dranginis soft? He plays in non hot bed of basketball talent, Idaho. What about Spangler? A tweener looking good playing amongst children, rather short ones, compared to him? Pangos? He himself wanted to redshirt. We are starting to get the feel already that players who excell in Canada are at the very least minus basic Basketball skills.
OK…rant over. Blast away!!~
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
my response, after reading your first sentence
I can’t say that GG and GJ were busts. The bust (as I pause and take a deep breath) is Meech. He doesn’t cut it as a feature PG for a top-25 program, yet he isn’t bad enough to cut or take out of a starting role. I would rather have GG and GJ than Meech, but you can’t just throw around players when an education is on the line and they haven’t done anything wrong off the court. Meech is a good guy, but I have a feeling that if he decided to leave right after last season there would be a lot more continuity on offense. Just my imagination, but I don’t see what the tandem of GG and GJ couldn’t do that Meech can. I don’t mean to diss on Meech but this team will take a large step forward when he gets put in a role he is more comfortable with. His strength is on defense, not offense, yet he was forced into being an all-around starting PG when he wasn’t ready.
Welcome to the Sound Pound...
