Nice article in today's Seattle Times on Washington's Mr. Basketball. This article gives some good insight in to GBJ (or as I'll now call him "Heat Check") background in basketball.

Well written article on a potential impact player for the Zags.

If only

I’d created something original in a FanPost and that was bumped to the front page… someday…

Wow

I can’t wait for next year. I hope Harris and Sacre both return.

by GregBAMFer on Feb 22, 2011 12:05 PM PST reply actions

They will

Harris’ NBA stock has dropped this year because of his lack of production. That could have been due to both injuries he had or the lack of a consistent rotation. Scare has slowly, but surely gotten beater every year at GU and I think he needs one more to be a legit NBA prospect. He’s become a monster in the paint and I love watching the jump hook he has almost perfected, which was a shot he didn’t have in his arsenal upon his arrival to GU. That being said, I think we get both back for next season

agreed

I would add lack of consistent PG play to Elias’ list of woes…whatever, I think he comes back, better than ever

Interesting that he's looking to play PG

I guess we’ll just have to see how it all plays out. Difficult not to get excited about such an intense baller, though.

There's no reason to think he shouldn't play PG

If he can get the job done, he can only help.

I’ll say this a bit early here but . . .

Next year, this team will go as far as it’s point guard(s) can take it.

It looks like we have found a 2 guard to replace SG. Carter can fill it up. I’m not as impressed with this D as some however.

GB

Plays point better than what we have at GU right now. However, the most glaring improvement to me of Gary’s progress over the past 4 years is his stroke! Just a beautiful release with lots of range. The ball will have to go threw him to the rest of the offense unless GU’s other recruits or current guards learn how to rin point consistently. JMO

In my perfect world, GB would run point with KD as the shooting guard. Both are very good passers, can get to the hole or dish on the drive. GB has explosiveness to blow past the ball pressure and serve it up or score. He’s so much better on “D” than either MC or DS and , IMO, better than Meech because of his physical pressure on the ball and great anticipation. Other than that………………..he can hoop!

One more thing!

IMO, GB is a tougher Jeremy Pargo without the Chicago one on one street ball and I say that with all due respect of Jeremy. Too me, that was his only flaw but he certainly overcame alot of it in his Senior year.

Gotta think the job is his.

Meech is obviously not the answer, Carter will be at the 2 and don’ even bring up Stockton. Course we haven’t really seen Pangos yet…

by oldzag on Feb 22, 2011 4:23 PM PST up reply actions

I seem to remember speculation a while back that Pangos would / would like to redshirt his freshman year

because he was a ‘tweener’ between being class of 2011 and 2012. But it’s probably just that — speculation — and won’t matter much when it comes to assessing.

I will say this: someone has to step up, because we won’t go far with another PG clusterfunk like this year, and it would be a shame to waste the front-court firepower we’ll have.

by Hoft on Feb 22, 2011 6:14 PM PST up reply actions

Actually

I kinda thought Pangos would be odd man out as I figured KD would split time at shooting guard with MC and Meech bein a senior and all. But we just haven’t heard much about his development. Didn’t realize he was a tweener and so prob. redshirt would make sense, esp. if that’s what he wants. Might be a tough row to hoe to beat out “Heat Check”. Who knows? Look at the player turnover we saw last year to this. These days Gonzaga basketball teams are not static for sure.

GBJ and Pangos

I dont think it matters who the PG is. I see GBJ and Pangos on the floor at the same time. They both can pass and shoot lights out. I also see KD playing some 3 / SF in years to come. The future is so bright Zags need to wear shades.

by ZagaZags on Feb 22, 2011 8:18 PM PST reply actions

I sure hope your right

I’ve looked high and low for the goods on Pangos and just get get a good feel. Having seen KD and GB, I know what’s coming there! I sure hope KD grows some because he’s flat out a shooter…………but then again, GB is too! Gotta like the future at guard fo ryears to come.
