Gonzaga going after Bryce Jones?

***

There hasn't been much word where Bryce Jones will land. The 6-foot-5 guard was once a promising member of the USC squad but since news of his transfer, there hasn't been any new news (other than he was looking at schools on the west coast).

Scott Wolf of the Long Beach Press-Telegram spoke to Jones and confirmed San Diego State, UTEP and Gonzaga are interested in Jones. But the kicker is -- Louisville and Kentucky might also be involved. Wolf clarifies that neither UL nor UK have requested a release so the situation is still far off for Jones to pack his bags to the east coast but the demand seems to be high for guard.

Could Jones stay out west? Jones says he will visit El Paso after the semester ends and SDSU has a history of roping in transfers from other Cali schools ( James Rahon and Malcolm Thomas).

I don't see how this would be possible with our current roster construction.

Even if someone were to transfer out, it doesn’t seem likely that a player would be excited to go somewhere with a minutes logjam.

Agreed.

I highly doubt this kid winds up seriously considering Gonzaga. It is very interesting, however, that Gonzaga would even show the slightest of interest.

Summed it Up

I didnt see how he would fit with the team, and also didnt expect us to be near his radar.

It was all just a dream...

Couldn't agree more

What a braindead move that would be. MA, MC, MM, MK and this guy all looking for minutes off the bench? Minutes are going to be harder to find next year with at least 2 players contributing several minutes at the point and sg positions. Doesn’t even take into consideration how much more Sam will be on the floor and where E might have to move to if he stays!

Staff will only look at this kid if they think someone is leaving

and I dont think that is going to happen. But like you said Zach interesting that they are even showing interest in the kid. Maybe that is the most telling signal of all.

It seems like the recruiting staff has ADD....

A shiny object appears and is open for transfer, and Gonzaga shows interest regardless of how ridiculous and impossible a transfer to Gonzaga would be… I would love to land a highly-touted and skilled shooting forward, but our huge glut of semi-skilled situational shooters and guards doesn’t necessarily make it a possibility or an attractive fit. landing Jones is about as likely as Wiltjer apologizing to Few for choosing Kentucky, and enrolling at GU to wear the Spike outfit at games. It’s just not going to happen.
