Not gonna lie

Xavier intensity scares me. Need big one from Guy.

lol

I seriously hate charges, even though we got the call

by 1AndDone on Dec 31, 2011 5:17 PM PST reply actions

True Enough

I went to the game. Very, very few Zag fans—I bet fewer than 50 in the house, and most clustered around the team.

I was upstairs and the X fans were very intense.

In fact, there’s a bit too much hype and swag in the Cintas center. For a moment there, I thought I was at an Arena Football League game or even UFC fight.

Fans complained about every call, not just the bad ones.

I was very reserved, but wehn I stood to cheer during a timeout early in the second half when the Zags went up 7, some old guy told to me to sit down and shouted I was in the wrong section. “Please don’t beat me up,” I said. And that was the end of that.

X's guards are crazy good

But Pangos and Bell are holding their own so far, it’s a nice change of pace from the past few years

Is this sparked by the jump stop

yes

exactly, he was doing drills in the middle of a basketball game

by 1AndDone on Dec 31, 2011 5:47 PM PST up reply actions

even his

free throw shooting has become mechanical this year

Haha I noticed it too

Extremely fundamental but not seeing anyone bite on it

by superZAGnics on Dec 31, 2011 5:50 PM PST up reply actions

You forget about BYU, which was 16th in the nation in rebounding last season.

by Pyrrhuloxia on Dec 31, 2011 7:42 PM PST up reply actions

Nice shot by Lyons

Hope our guards can start hitting some jumpers.

by Osco on Dec 31, 2011 5:52 PM PST reply actions

Give Pangos some help

don’t leave the freshman alone with that pressure. I’m expecting Pangos to get a little miffed about the turnovers. Get mad buddy!

This is great,

hopefully Khem Birch is watching. Wasn’t Xavier also among his choices?

by mkries on Dec 31, 2011 6:00 PM PST reply actions

I'm happy with the first half

Our frosh guards have done well against their experienced guards (except those last couple of turnovers).
Unfortunately Rob has played as well as I’d hoped. Good thing we have Sam.
Only Harris, Spangler and Hart have 2 fouls, but X isn’t in foul trouble either

by BKZ on Dec 31, 2011 6:04 PM PST reply actions

Team effort

If you would have told me that Rob would be outscored by his man, E would be a little off, Bell and Pangos would struggle from outside in the first half, I would expect us to be down by at least 10. Nice team play.

by Osco on Dec 31, 2011 6:10 PM PST up reply actions

well

I would have expected Rob to be outscored by his man

by 1AndDone on Dec 31, 2011 6:12 PM PST up reply actions

I predict Rob will have a big 2nd half with 12 points and 5 rebounds

He’s such a stud, I mean look at all those muscles -———————————————————————————————————>

Pangos getting tired of being fouled?

Looked like he dived there to force the ref to make a call. Think he’s strong enough to have kept going.

Bell dribble penetration?

Love it. Cant remember the last time I’ve seen it!

by Osco on Dec 31, 2011 6:52 PM PST reply actions

carrying

okay so I’ll admit I don’t have much basketball experience but to me it looks like a number of times Holloway and Lyon are carrying the basketball, does anyone else see this? Can someone explain why it’s not?

by phxzagsfan on Dec 31, 2011 7:01 PM PST reply actions

I do...

Seems like the last few years we play better unranked though.

Top 15

The Zags won’t get in the nod for the top 15 just yet. However, they are a top 15 team as shown by their performance tonight. Laphonso Ellis (TV announcer, former Marquette Warrior) said at the end of the game, “the Zags are a much better team than people around the nation realize.” He mentioned Dower as a top “stretch 4”, Landry’s athleticism, etc. as the ingredients that are pushing the Zags up to a national level this year.

This BIG win will do wonders for the Zags confidence for the remainder of the season.

by BeGood on Dec 31, 2011 7:20 PM PST up reply actions

These ash munch announcers talking about Xavier

being in a funk since the suspensions, trying to minimize this Zag win…NO SHIT, their best players were out. They are back now. Full strength. We choked them out on National TV….BWAAAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAA!

by gaz-tastic on Dec 31, 2011 7:21 PM PST reply actions

Xavier is for real

Holloway and Lyons are future NBA players. I wouldn’t be shocked if they ran the table in the A-10, even with a good SLU and tough Temple team. This was a great, great, great, great win for us. Maybe not the prettiest at times, but a great win.

by i_am_a_ZAG on Dec 31, 2011 7:23 PM PST up reply actions

Almost as good as the St. Johns win in the Tourney....almost.

It’s been awhile since we tore it up on National TV. Chew on that, east coast bias.

Huge win. I could never have imagined that we would be 11-2 at this point. Incredible!!~

I Agree

I think Xavier will win the A10. I haven’t seen St. Louis, but X is better than Temple and Dayton.

They’re not the smartest team, though, and they had better shoot free throws better if they make the Sweet 16 this year.

by steverino9 on Jan 1, 2012 11:10 AM PST up reply actions

Shout out for E

Hard to miss what Sam and Gary did, but E had a solid game. He only got credited for 6 rebounds, but I saw him keep the ball alive a number of times. Zags rebounding edge: 41 – 27.
And officially only 17 turn overs? Seemed like we had that many in the first 5 minutes of the second half.

Stocks looked like a grade schooler vs Tu Holloway

when Tu picked his pocket twice in a row. Pretty lame.

Mr. Carter gave us some stability

on offense; turnovers are still our biggest enemy

by rnpljnsn on Dec 31, 2011 11:35 PM PST reply actions

Well, this season, Carter has the most turnovers per game on the team, and he’s nowhere near the most minutes per game.

My Xavier Experience

I went to a Xavier game for the first time. Georgeous campus.

I saw only 6 people all night wearing Zag gear—each time we acknowledged each other. Very intense Xavier crowd.

After the game, I made my way down to the area behind the Zag behind. Sacre especially was enthusiastic as the team left the court.

I shouted my congratulations to Coach Few. He did a great job. I think he outcoached Chris Mack (and so did the Xavier fans among whom I sat during the game).

Nice games by Bell, Dower and Pangos. The Zags hit the glass hard. Great victory.

gary and pangos' d

I think gary’s d is really infectious and making the others step up as well. I noticed Pangos playing Lyons very tight and ventured to the box score after the game. Lyons was a crumby 5 for 16 from the floor and Kevin had a lot to do with that.

Anyone Still Writing this Blog?

it would be cool

if we could get Jim Meehan’s approval to have his post game write ups put on this site. Or maybe even Will Greene could write a recap. Or even Gaz could start putting them up.

well,

i don’t know if the writers have the time anymore, seems like this site has been on life support.

by 1AndDone on Jan 5, 2012 4:35 PM PST up reply actions

I'm not saying they are doing a great job

Keeping up with a blog like this can be a big job.

I agree that assignments for each writer would help but . . . what if one of the writer fails to perform on a given week? Do we hang all three of em?

I do think they should name and blame when this happens. There is nothing like public humiliation to instil a renewed sense of dedication (or departure as the case may be).

My daughter (computer wiz — not a journalism major at all) was an editor for a college news paper – she held a paid position -not a student volunteer. Copy was due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Copy had to go to the printer by midnight on Wednesday. Well over 20 writers for that paper. Roughly one front page feature article in six was written by my daughter while she was sitting around waiting for the ‘assigned writers’ to deliver their copy (which they never did - but did deliver a lot of excuses). There were always more than one ‘assigned writer’ — in theory, the best article got published.

Face it — more than a few college kids are flakes. Might have some of that going on here as well.

The solution is simple - we can put you in charge - and you can do the articles (on very short notice) when the assigned writer fails to follow through.

That's funny!

I have seen these "line outs on this site before and never understood what was going on, or why. So it just happens instantaneously?….lol The mystery is solved…or not.

some sites have assignments

I would assign post game recaps to Gaz, since he seems enthusiastic about the team, and is willing to go into detail.

by 1AndDone on Jan 5, 2012 4:38 PM PST up reply actions

Thanks for the support.

I would love to have a designated assignment of some sort, plus fill in wherever, whenever needed, while still adding to fanshots, et all.

I have offered to do anything possible to help grow the site, at no charge of course, but there seems to be little interest from the {bosses} to add any official “contributor.” I have also given my personal phone numbers several times to use as a life line if they ever needed a write up in a pinch.

Contests, giveaways {out of pocket}, regular features….I have offered. In the meantime, I will just stick to comments. It’s their site and if they do not need, nor want any help….they have their reasons and I will respect that.

During the off-season I had been pretty busy on this site. Wonder what’s in store for us going forward? Tumbleweeds and crickets?

LaSalle with easy win vs Xavier last night, 80-70...wha???

Color me surprised. LaSalle led by 16 at the half and beat Xavier in the first conf game for the Atlantic 10 schools.

I thought Xavier would get rolling entering conf play, especially since everyone is back from their suspensions.

Takes the cherry off of our “signature win”, huh? damn.
