Tumbleweeds...

This site has been DEAD lately,,, I mean, merry Chrimbus everyone, but lets talk Zags, and argue, and reminisce...

1. PARGO- in preseason game, against Sterns NO hornets, he had 15 points, 7 assists, 0 turnovers...then, in regular season opener rematch against SA (last years playoff opponent), he had 15 minutes, 3 assists, 3 turnovers... Memphis has potential, so does Pargo!

2. Ronny had 5 rebounds and a block, in 22 minutes vs. NJ, in opener, 4 fouls, come on, Ronny, you gotta shut "dim bulb" Mr Kardashian down!!

3. Gonzaga has won against Air Force, Moral Orel, Butler, and Zona, all in a row, plus wins against Wazzu and Notre Dame, which I think will look better as year progresses... Deep thinkers will naysay, and demean everyone we beat, (cause when you win, losing team doesn't look as good).. I think these are quality wins,,, we are just outside of top 25 in both polls, and have 10th ranked RPI in country!

4.. Lets beat Xavier, and go undefeated in confy,, I think this is possible, and if we pull it off, the confidence will be great for our freshman. Pangos and Bell continue to improve, Spangler and Quise get their groove in conference play,=FINAL FOUR BABY!

And, to point #3,

I know there are people anxiously watching MSU and Illinois games now…any team that beats them would probably shut us out, right??? As Sandusky’s lawyer pointed out, you need to call 1800REALITY

Thanks for the post...

This site has been dead lately, seems posts are not being added as frequently as they once were, maybe the holidays have something to do with that, but I am getting sick of logging on and seeing that AF VS GU game thread…

Zags are on a nice lil roll, like you said just outside the top 25, if we can win out this week I think we will be back in…the only crappy thing is that Xavier has lost 3, one of those games was with Lyons and Holloway playing…all 3 of the suspension guys will be back vs GU though…Xavier is no longer ranked. They will be a very tough game at home, watching last week I was very impressed with both Holloway and Lyons (punks) but they are very good…probably the toughest guard tandem we will face all season…Lets go get the W!

Pargo

re-read what you wrote, he plays for the Grizzlies (they were playing against SA). He did look very good.

Ya, I know, I mistyped, Memphis for SA...

hope he stays in the rotation all year, and Memphis wins 40-45 in abbreviated season

To point #4

Still looking at 3-5 losses possible in league.

Conference...

Well I hope we dont have 3-5 losses in conference play but its possible. St Marys and BYU will both be very tough to beat, definately not a walk in the park…Teams like SF,LMU,SC have the ability to beat or lose to anyone…

We are still the team to beat in League play, every team plays there best ball against the ZAGS, so we will have to bring it.

I'm being a little optimistic

Provo will be a tough venue, and our league is so crazy, like Seth says, LMU could nip us, and go sub 500 against rest of league.
Just want to get on a really good, double digit win roll, and in the Tourney, our freshmen won’t be freshmen anymore (I hope)

Yeah, I agree

I wasn’t being negative. Just pointing out what I see from their play so far and how they’re being coached! I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see GU winning the league with MH starting and playing up to 30 minutes as a high! I’m not sold on this “good chemistry” crap either. Therefore, 3-5 losses sounds about right. If the coaching substitution carousel doesn’t end quickly along with the current starting 5, I see a BYU, GU/SMC finish with GU as low as 3rd. JMO.

Hart is playing 20 minutes per game

Edi is playing 8,,, love both guys, would love it even more it those numbers are transposed by seasons end

yeah I know what the average is!

The point is, he has played up to thirty. More so, he’s starting and averaging 20 mpg? That is one of my basis for 3-5 losses in league.

Yakima area

I work tons of night shifts (and tons of day shifts, too), so my circadian rhythm is SCREWED.
YES, lets set the tone for NW conference supremacy tonight!

I going to get over to see Davis (Yakima) play.

I put it on my goal bucket list this season. Have you seen them play at all? Nut’n like a fun HS team to watch!

by mikesequim on Dec 28, 2011 10:21 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I have only been following them in the sports pages,,they look good

well coached and balanced!
A couple years ago had a couple relatives (cousin and baby sister) playing high school BB in the area, was following it closely, and attending games.. if Davis keeps it up, I will have to catch a game myself!

Maybe 1 or 2

no way 3-5. This team is too mentally tough this year. KP and Bell are the real deals. I like our chances in close games with the ball in their hands and them on the FT line. “ice water” in KP’s vains!

At BYU and at St. Mary’s will be tough but I think they can win them both. I just hope there is no slip up by the Bay this year. For some reason SF and SC give the Zags fits on the road.

Tumbleweeds indeed. I'm glad I wasn't to only one who noticed............

Finally, a thread worth commenting on.
The countdown on the home page says we’re in a very, very long battle with Illinois.
I’m hoping Pargo will make some noise in the NBA.
I hope Morrison does too – any news on him? He was playing poker at a bar down the street a few nights ago.
I agree that the Zags are on a positive roll. They’re playing tighter with each outing. Hope Sacre and his thumb are healing. Hope Marquise uses Xavier for a “break out” like he did at Baylor last year. I like our chances in league play this year. I see only 1or 2 possible losses this year – possibly at BYU and possibly 1 other on the road in So Cal but not at Moraga.
I for one, am very excited about the weeks to come.

Player development

Interesting trying to see how the players are developing over the first part of the season. My take is that Stockton has picked up his game a little since last year, still playing with lots of energy but having a little more luck keeping his man in front of him. I’ve liked Pangos’ confidence to keep playing his game even when his shot wasn’t falling. GBJ is really growing on me. Seems like after the first couple of games he settled down and is playing solid basketball. I still haven’t seen enough of Spangler or Edi to have a real feel for them. The biggest thing I’ve noticed about Elias this year seems to be his energy – maybe a half step quicker, but seems like better position, seems to crash the boards more consistently. And it looks like Sam is getting back to his ‘shoot first’ ways and its working for him. I had been hoping for Carter to be the stabilizing factor for the freshman guards, but it doesn’t look like Bell or Pangos need that, nor that Carter has been able to provide that on the floor this year.
As for Pargo, it’s been fun being able to keep an eye on him at Memphis (don’t get confused with the Atlanta Pargo :^)
Last I heard on Morrison was no NBA takers, and that he’s looking at Europe again. Perhaps Spain although sounds like Red Star might take him back.

if Ammo can't find a job over here...
