Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

St. Mary's.... Oops

While it was only 1 loss there was something big that I took out of the SMC vs DU game in Denver. SM was a 2 man team and nothing more. Rob Jones (I'll avoid any inappropriate nicknames) looked very good, DU had size but nobody with enough bulk like Rob or Sam to match up with him. Dellevadova hit some 3's but forced a few towards the end. Besides those 2 there was nothing. We have seen Steindle before and he can shoot, he was non existent. Also, they have a couple big Aussie bodies, didn't do anything at all. So only 2 guys with more than 6 points, not good. Again it was only 1 game but I love to see that their offense is very limited...

Also, I had criticized Bennett for a weak schedule this year. If he wants to create a program like we have he has to go out and offer to play anybody, anywhere. That is how we now have gotten a great home schedule, the last 10 years of going anywhere to play. When you look at their schedule it definitely leaves you wanting a lot more if you are an SMC fan. The past as show an inflated win total wont get them in without big wins. They cannot rely on beating us once out of three times to get them in. Not a good start for SMC, def made me happy tho.  Just my quick and immidiate thoughts after watching the game. Go Zags!!

SMC is so amazing though! Dellavedova is a sure fire all american!!!

I’ve been saying all along that McConnell made Dellavedova look way better than he is. SMC is an average mid major at best, looks like it’s BYU and USF’s turn to be our “rivals” for a couple years.

BYU

I’ve watched about 2 and a half BYU games this year and they look slightly above mediocre at best. It should still be a tough game for us in Provo but if I had to pick 2 or 3 conf. games we would lose this year I’d pick USF, SCU, and SMC all away.

overated

SMU dosent have the depth…we still have that target on our back and everyone shows up against us…but I love the fact that they got stomped by Denver…the only bad part is, that if we do beat them twice, our wins wont look as stong…unless they go on a nice little run…

The Dons beat Dartmouth today by 2..they have been having close games..I know Seattle University played them tough…The Dons do have a a nice back court but I would not trade ours for theres…Pang Pang is a stud and GB is looking better each game…

SCU

For the first time in a long time, i feel like we can win any game on our schedule, dependent on our shooting. and our team battles. we’re not looking too bad, beating UNM and Nova… losing to Oklahoma and UCSB (badly). Gotta be better than USF, losing to Murray State, NDSU, and NMSU. We have a tougher schedule than USF and SMC and we’re playing well. We’ll play the Zags tough in the Leavy Center this year I think.

SC looked good

I was home sick and watched the game.

It took a lot more than Foster to win that game.

Nova looked pretty sluggish for what ever that is worth — poor ball movement through much of the game.

Not too take too much away from Santa Clara's win but

Villanova looks kinda soft this year. Maybe that win is not all what it looks to be?They lost to St. Louis and Santa Clara….Delaware and La Salle took them to the wire too.

Still, a good win, just not sure how good yet. Ahhhh, the season is young and these mysterys will be solved.
