As the season comes to a start I have been wondering who will be starting @ PG for Gonzaga this season. Many of you may be quick to say that Stockton will get the nod, mostly because he has experience from playing last year and the offense did seem to flow much better when he was on the floor. Stockton is a defensive liabilty though and seems to struggle against elite/athletic teams.
After watching Pangos during Kraziness in the Kennel, I was so impressed with his ability to control the offense, he looked poised, confident and made great decisions with the ball in his hands. I know it is a scrimmage, but still 16 points in 15 mins of play. Pangos wasn't playing against scrubs, it was Sacre, Harris, Carter, Stockton, Bell etc. There is no way in my mind that Pangos won't get the nod. My reasons....
Pangos has played with elite players and against elite competition like Team USA when he was on Team Canada. He has played against the best and excelled in international tournaments, and has even had the highlight of being the tournament MVP in one of those. Pangos will not get rattled when playing teams that may potentially be more athletic or talented then our Zags, he has been there before, and knows how to compete.
Pangos has a tremendous basketball IQ, he knows how to create angles while getting up the floor, he has great vision, can shoot, and plays good D. Most of all I like his attitude, even during interviews he already seems so professional, confident and mature, definately a player that can take the reins and handle pressure. I will enjoy seeing Pangos and Bell on the floor together, pretty scary, its going to be fun to watch in upcoming years.
No offense to Stockton, he plays hard and provided a spark that was definately needed last year when the offense was non-productive, my take is that Pangos will start or take over after a few games in to the season, any thoughts.
