Anyone worried about st. marys...
St. Marys is a team that is ridiculously effective on offense. They are 2nd in the nation in both assists and field goal percentage. Both McConnel and Delledova average 6 assists a game and have a Assist/TO of over 3. There only two losses came on the road against SDSU, a team that we know is very good, and a one pt loss to Jimmer's team BYU.
Lets be realistic, with apologies to looking ahead, St. Marys is the marquee league matchup for Gonzaga, and is not going to be easy sledding. Yes this is a team that lost samhan, but in all honesty he was never effective against us. they pass and shoot the ball well, added Rob Jones for some athleticism, and seem to have some incredible confidence. Thursday the 27th has been circled on my calendar for some time and the kennel should definitely be rocking.

There's always reason to worry when it comes to St. Mary's...
Were it not for Jeremy Pargo pulling on Patty Mills’ shorts and inadvertently causing him to break his wrist, they’d have beaten us two years ago in the Kennel. They’ve been a very strong and talented team for the past several years that can compete with the Zags like no other WCC team can. If they beat us, pundits might call it an upset, but that would be overstating it. Still, I don’t think there is any reason the Zags shouldn’t be able to go undefeated in conference this year.

I agree.
I agree 100%. They are everything we are not and we have what they don’t. We are led by an inside game. They are led by guard play. I think it is going to be a very good matchup for us. I feel we have the more athletic defenders and I think we will be able to disrupt their guard play more than they can disrupt our inside game. It’s nice to have some competition in the WCC.
I am!
St. Mary’s did not play the sched we played but they are still very good. They beat St. Johns and barely lost to #10 BYU by one point AT BYU. Yeah, that BYU, 17-1 and the one with Jimmer Fredette. The nations leading scorer…
They are #7 in the nation in scoring at 84.9 ppg. And #3 in the nation in field goal % at .512.
They have an 8 game winning streak and have also walloped their the last 8 opponents by approx 25 points plus!
This team can shoot the three {a weakness of ours} with McConnell and Dellavdova at a frightening clip. Young is a stud too but the thing that really sets this team apart is their passing. It can be almost mesmerizing and they had 22 assists vs LMU because of it. Hell, they had 6 players in double figures vs LMU.
Can we beat them? Of course. Will we? That remains to be seen. One thing I know for sure is is that we had BETTER beat them the first go round at our house. I consider it a MUST WIN situation. I do not want to lose the first here, then hope to win at their house, where it is, and would be, absolutely CrAZY!!~
{I posted this on another thread….thought it went better on this one}
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
Had to check w/ESPN...
The BYU game was at neutral site – South Padre Island Texas. It was a close game throughout, BYU made clutch buckets at end of game to pull it out.

No way
St. Marys is the clear cut top 2 with us in the league
No.

What? Me Worry???
We already took it to the nations leading 3-point team.
We could take it to BYU!
St. Mary’s doesn’t have the balanced attack that we do.
I think the last 8 games have shown that we can defend good 3-point shooting teams.
As for our 5 losses, we are very well tested against some of the nations best.
I BELIEVE!!!!!
It will come down to who plays the best "D"......fairly equal on "O" but I like our bench better.
2 wins against SMC!
unless those lapdogs
are unlucky enough to cross our paths in the field of 64,,,unlikely, i know, but they would then receive a third thrashing, and truly regret Samhans gloating last year

with their 3 point shooting anything can happen
Its not delledova thats worrysome, our athletic guards can handle him. Its their 4 and 5 guys that will make sacre and harris rotate to the perimeter and defend the three, which is not a strength of sacre or harris whatsoever (need i say illinois or WSU)
He's young, obviously not as consistent as you'd like,
but
Dower shows flashes of being able to step out quickly enough to cover inside and out
looks like he has concrete in his shoes, or else he looks like he is going to trip, A LOT!
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
exactly
I have no doubt that Meech, Keita and company can defend their guards off the dribble. But if those guards can penetrate and get it to their guys who can shoot lights out, I’m very worried. If this is one major flaw in this team, it is it’s ability to defend the 3 from all positions on the court. I think our bigs will get theirs, but if this turns into a shootout, I don’t love our chances.
