Kyle Wiltjer to announce college decision on Saturday
This tweet just came across in the past hour:
Kyle Wiltjer will make his college announcement tomorrow night on ESPNU during the live telecast of the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game.
Gonzaga's most prized 2011 prospect is without a doubt Mr. Wiltjer but this tweet from Alex Kline (@TheRecruitScoop) comes as a huge surprise. I'm not sure of young Mr. Kline's credentials but he writes for Rivals, ZagsBlog, and The Kentucky Sports Radio. It has since been confirmed by a few other sources so it sounds legit that Kyle will commit tomorrow night.
Initial thought. Who the hell knows but this is huge news as Mark Few looks to continue his hot recruiting streak with the 2011 class. Wiltjer, a five star power forward from Oregon, will decide from a who's who of schools including Gonzaga, Cal, Kansas, Kentucky, GA Tech, Wake, and Texas...and yes those are the order I think those schools will wind up!
Regardless of classification, position, or anything else, Wiltjer has blown up more than any other recruit in the country this summer. He's flashed unreal versatility and has dramatically improved his post play. He'd be a remarkable get for the Zags.
Thoughts?

We're screwed
I’ll eat crow till the cows come home (lots of animal cliches in there)if I’m wrong, but if the guy is announcing on somewhat national TV it gives me the heebiejeebees. He’s probably going to Kansas or Texas. Surprise me!
We're golden
….my sources? None…but damnit I’m excited.
The Slipper Still Fits - SB Nation's home for the Gonzaga Bulldogs!
Unfortunatly, I think you're right
if he’s announcing in a big TV event, I think that probably means GU is out of it. I’d be exceedingly happy to be wrong, though. Cal, maybe? Or a surprise from out of left field and Texas or Wake? I’d guess UK is out of it at this stage. Possibly Kansas, but weren’t they cooling on him or something? I never really keep up that well with these recruiting sagas until the 11th hour. Guess this is the 11th hour.
Bad Outlook
First of all, who does this kid think he is, Lebron James? Secondly, if he’s going to announce tomorrow on some sort of broadcast, he’ll be going to a Big-6 school like Texas or Kentucky. I’d generously give Gonzaga a 15% chance of landing him. Sorry, but It’s just not going to happen.
Zagnificent - GU Class of 2010
Holy Crap!
Sadly I also have a feeling that he will be going to Cal or Kansas but for a big-time recruit to announce that he is coming to GU on TV would be huge. Fingers crossed!
i can feel it
he’s spent a lot of time with some zags this summer, the canadian connection, system, woooohooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
A bit over the top
You know we are interested in his decision but . . . you gotta wonder. He’s not a national name.
Then again, if the announcement is on one of our local stations, now that would be kinda cool.

Ahhhh!!!
I was not mentally prepared for a decision this early! Haha now I have less than 24 hours to get myself ready for a possibly defining moment in Zags recruiting or a possibly devastating end to the Kyle Wiltjer saga. No matter what happens I truly wish Kyle the best and hope he has great success wherever he chooses to attend school.
See you guys tomorrow night! As T.O. would say, Getcha popcorn ready!!!!

Hate to say it but, I got a bad feeling on this one
Well, at least the waiting will be over. If he comes here, great. If not, we will be just fine.
Starting to feel like he is not nearly as good as being made out to be. Kind of slow. I do not see him as an N.B.A. product. I very good Collegiate player, just not pro good.
Lets do this thing…
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
You're all probalby right to be neverous, but what if he does choose the Zags?
Suddenly our 2011 becomes one of the most buzzed about in all the land.
I thought he was going to visit some of the schools on his "list" first, seems kind of odd
Nervous?? That’s putting it mildly… I need some Nyquil.
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
Did he even visit
Spokane and the GU campus?
He recently said, in an audio link I put on here, that he was visiting Cal first
I heard he has been on the Gonzaga campus in the past, but it was not an “official” visit. And that he has been to some Gonzaga basketball camps. Maybe he already pretty much knew where he was going to go so he decided to skip the “official” visits?
Uhoh~~~Wonder if he actually did visit CAL first “officially” and now is announcing tonight in CALifornia at the Boost Mobile Elite 24, which happens to be in Venice Beach, CAL.
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
Does anyone have a time for when to look for the announcement?
That said, I’m not a big fan of these live TV announcements. Let your game do the talking, not media hype.
4:30 P. M. is when the game starts on E.S.P.N.U.
Sooo, anytime after that I suppose.
Let’s see if this 16 year old writer, Alex Kline, knows what he’s talking aboout. Maybe the only thing K.W. will annouce is who he will visit and in what order.
Kyle, pick Gonzaga!
GONZAGA {subliminal}
GONZAGA {subliminal}
GONZAGA {subliminal} haha
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
I agree
The fact that he is planning on announcing on ESPN makes me feel there is no chance he is going to GU :(
Why?
I keep hearing this but don’t get it. Does Gonzaga lend itself to a handwritten letters or something?
The Slipper Still Fits - SB Nation's home for the Gonzaga Bulldogs!
Seriously is he Lebron James...
Gonzaga will be fine either way…The thing that bothers me here is the fact that he is announcing his decision on National Television…really…is he Lebron James…GU players are blue collared and hard working, we dont need arrogance. Obviously he is a fantastic player, but if we dont get him Gonzaga will be fine, they have plenty of good talent on the radar.
One can be hard-working and still announce crap on national television
Although I agree that LeBron left a pretty big LeTaint on that particularly move.
I really do think we need to phase out the whole “oh, ‘true Zags’ are ‘blue collared’ players who would never do anything flashy.” We try to recruit elite players just like everybody else. They become “true Zags” when they play hard and play well, which has nothing to do with some out-of-the-spotlight working-class rhetoric or a total lack of arrogance. Let’s not pretend that there’s Zags and then the big mean corrupt glitzy one-and-done world of college basketball that we keep ourselves pure and isolated from by choice.
I bring this up because I know that if he announces to go elsewhere, we’ll get a huge cavalcade of “we don’t want him anyway / he’s not a true Zag / good riddance” BS, which is pretty pathetic. And false.
But on a different note — is anyone else a little bit skeptical of the validity of this rumor? It’s all on a 16 year old recruit blogger, and it conflicts with everything we’ve been hearing about what Wiltjer intends to do. I’m not saying I don’t believe it; I’m just saying it seems fishy.

Excellent post...couldn't agree more with your points
I see nothing wrong with Kyle doing this on ESPNU. He’s having fun with it…as it should be. It is the fans that take it too seriously.
The Slipper Still Fits - SB Nation's home for the Gonzaga Bulldogs!
Kids do this all the time when they are on a national showcase.
If you have ever seen the US Army All American game or UA AA game you would know this is a regualr thing. He isnt holding his own special or even announcing on ESPN live like Sebastian Telfair did. This is great for Gonzaga basketball reguardless if he commits or not.
Yeah, this seems odd
Wouldn’t ESPN promote this announcement on their own recruiting website if it was going to happen?

woah
I never said if he announces to go elsewhere that we dont want him anyway! so what u are saying is false…I am just saying if we didnt land Kyle, we have other options, Gonzaga is a premier program and has plenty more options…relax.
Best Recruiting Class?!?!
Well it seems Mr. Witjer is all about basketball and little else. Turns out he never visited the KY campus and recent blurbs indicate the only reason he chose KY was that he wanted to be part of the ’best recruiting class".
This guy has played on the best AAU team in the country for some time and it appears his version of competition is all about getting on the ‘best possible team’.
No doubt he will contribute at KY. Face it, he never was Zag material in the first place.
