More Conference Switching Talk

I hate to bring this up again but . . . per Jeff Goodman's Twitter account:

"Hearing from multiple sources there's a strong possibility that BYU goes to the WAC in hoop and becomes independent in football."

Again I will open it up to the TSSF community . . . if BYU can do it, why can't we? If BYU becomes a basketball only school in the WAC that opens up a host of possibilities for GU. Previous conference switching talk was pushed aside because "Gonzaga doesn't have a football team". Well here potentially we have a school who will become a basketball only school on the west coast in another conference. The fact that BYU has a football team is irrelevant if it stays independent. I am not saying that we should go to the WAC, I am just saying that if BYU can become a basketball only school in a conference with football, then I certainly think GU can as well.

BYU's a pretty damn big draw

and the state of Utah was huge for the Mountain West. Now you are going to (possibly) have a Mountain West stripped of it’s two big market teams in Utah and BYU and add Boise State who, while great football wise, is a very poor television market. The TCU’s and UNLV’s might be scrambling a bit and the entire conference could be in trouble if this all goes down…without a doubt someone will be looking to merge/expand. The events of this past summer will only be the tip of the iceberg in how the west shakes out.

Who knows…but I sure as hell know I’d love to play UNLV, SDSU, New Mexico etc every year…

MWC Shake up

I would say if the MWC added one maybe two more California schools along with us, they would be darn near impossible to pass up.

Apparently its a done deal now

What I don’t get is why BYU would go from the MWC to a weaker basketball conference like the WAC.

It's a football world

and I’m sure the Mountain West didn’t want to lose their football but keep everything else. I imagine they told this to the MWC, they said F off, and BYU went to the weaker WAC.

BYU to the WCC???

Per Andy Katz:
“WCC commissioner Jamie Zaninovich told ESPN.com early Wednesday the league would be interested in pursuing BYU for all sports except football. Zaninovich said BYU would fit well with the other church-based institutions in the eight-team league. Zaninovich told ESPN.com he reached out to BYU but hasn’t heard back.”
